Chapter 748
“Yeah, I didn’t see anything that appealed to me,” Skylar answered.
She couldn’t afford any of the cars in his warehouse, and driving them out would attract too much attention. Besides, she did not want what happened with Vera to have a repeat performance.
Joe glanced at her before looking back in front. They didn’t speak much.
They arrived at the hospital shortly. It was a top–tier one with many people.
The hospital rooms were full, so many patients were forced to sleep in the corridors. Some had their families keeping them company, making the inpatient department extremely crowded.
It was a chaotic mess, and Joe’s face tended to create quite a commotion. Thus, Skylar said, “There are too many people here. Wait for me in the parking lot.”
Joe didn’t refuse it. He took the elevator back to the parking lot while Skylar headed to Sadie’s room.
Sadie lay there alone.
When Skylar walked in, the patients and their families looked at her.
“Are you her family?”
“Other than the two people who came in the morning, no one cared for her. Why wouldn’t you get a caregiver?”
“Stop talking. Let’s not comment on others‘ family affairs.”
The others conversed noisily.
Skylar didn’t offer a response. She walked to Sadie’s bed and looked down at her. She was unconscious and disoriented.
She hadn’t seen Sadie in a while. After her paralysis, she was doing horribly. The elegant wife of a wealthy man had disappeared. She’d become unkempt and dirty. Sadie was skin–and–bones.
Although she’d been paralyzed, she wouldn’t have become like that if her
family had taken care of her.
Anyone with eyes could see that her family was mistreating her. It was why she was on the brink of death.
Finally, they saw a young woman show up. They couldn’t help but complain. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
Skylar knew what they were thinking. What happened between her and Sadie didn’t need to be explained to those strangers.
At that moment, a doctor walked in on his rounds.
He asked how the other patients were doing. Then, he came to Sadie’s bed. He was surprised to see Skylar with her, and his expression turned grim.
“She’s in critical condition. You’re her family, right? How have you been taking care of her?”
Skylar said calmly, “I’m not legally related to her in any way.”
The doctor was stunned and somewhat embarrassed.
“Around how long will she be able to hold on?” asked Skylar.
He replied pitifully, “Although she’d been in an accident and had gotten an amputation, she wouldn’t have been admitted to the hospital if she had recovered well under the care of her family members. She won’t hold past the new few days. Ask her family members to prepare themselves.”
Skylar nodded.
Since she had no questions, he walked away.
Skylar stared at Sadie while thinking about her past life. When she had a
chance to start again, the one lying in bed half–dead became Sadie instead of Skylar. It instilled a complicated mix of emotions in her.
She had already seen Sadie, so Skylar turned to leave.
