Chapter 57
Chapter 57
If she could be free of him in just a year, let each other go and live their own lives, it would be a
blessing in disguise. Sure beat the endless tangle they were in now.
But she was determined to pay the money back.
Natalie had barely clocked in at the office when Rosie came rushing in, dragging her towards the
makeup room, “Big day today, girl! You’re going to attend the lead role reveal party, and it kicks off at 1
PM sharp.”
“I thought it was this weekend?” Natalie was caught off guard. She was completely unprepared. not
even sure what the agenda for a press conference was.
“That’s why I’m filling you in on the drill for this afternoon,” Rosie replied, nodding. “The thing is
Madelyn’s got a gig at a music fest abroad this Saturday and she’s snagged an award. She is the voice
behind our show’s theme song and is scheduled to sing live at the reveal party. She can’t miss it, so we
bumped it up to fit her schedule.”
Rosie used to be on Madelyn’s team and still had a soft spot for her, laced with a touch of guilt.
Plus, Madelyn was the company’s darling this year, untouchable. Others had to dance to her dates.
Nobody expected Madelyn to bend for them.
Natalie listened to Rosie’s explanation, staying silent while the makeup artist worked on her look.
The TV in the makeup room was tuned to the morning news of Streamville.
“…BrightWright Entertainment is under investigation for a slew of alleged violations, including tax
evasion,” the anchor was saying. “From now on, the police are diving deep into the case. and leaders
of BrightWright Entertainment will cooperate with the inquiry.”
Natalie was pricked at the mention of the Wright family, and she glanced at the TV.
Rosie, remote in hand, watched for a moment before shaking her head. “Everyone gives a shove to a
falling wall. The Wright family has been too bold, riding on Mr. Howard’s favor. After all no rose blooms
forever, right?”
As Natalie was about to respond, the door to the makeup room swung open.
Upon turning and catching sight of Madelyn’s entrance, Rosie swiftly sealed her lips and quickly
switched the TV channel. Madelyn was Brian’s new golden girl and Rosie knew better than to speak
out of turn.
Madelyn, spotting Natalie, thought for a second and then took a seat at a makeup station a couple
down from hers.
Madelyn’s new agent, still watching the news, handed her a phone.
Madelyn glanced at it, smiled faintly, and said, “Gracia owes the Howard family one. Brian is
bound to lend a hand. You guys should zip it.”
Rosie stuck out her tongue stealthily and whispered to Natalie. “I’ll head next door to pick out a few
outfits for you.”
“Sure,” Natalie nodded.
Madelyn’s agent cast a dismissive roll of her eyes towards them, continuing her perusal of the news
without interruption. A few minutes later, she thrust the phone at Madelyn again, “Who’s this Annika?
She got a lot of nerve challenging you in public.”
Natalie turned at the mention of Annika, catching a glimpse of the agent’s phone.
“Just a cover artist who’s been hot for the past couple of years. We both covered the same old song,
that’s all. And she did her version before I performed it on the show. No need to make a fuss,” Madelyn
said calmly while applying foundation.
“But it wasn’t until you sang it on the show last month that the song hit the trend charts again. Annika
has been heating it up this month, clearly riding your coattails!” the agent retorted. clearly miffed.
“If you got worked up over stuff like this every day, you wouldn’t have time for anything else.” Madelyn Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
laughed it off.
