Chapter 307 Taken Away
Lewis frowned. He briskly entered the room. It was empty, and so was the bedroom.
“How …” Gerald rubbed his eyes and hastily explained, “I’ve been keeping watch downstairs and never saw her come down!” Trembling, he lifted his eyes to look at Lewis and noticed Lewis’ ferocious glare. Gerald shuddered and said, “I … I… I’ll check the surveillance footage…
Then, Gerald darted toward the control room while dialing the hotel manager’s number.
All this fuss… Gerald couldn’t get his head around it. Josephine was already a grown-up, not a three- year-old, yet Lewis got all worked up just because she went missing for a second.
Hardington was turbulent but only where the hustle and bustle were or in remote areas. It was safe within the vicinity of his hotel.
Nevertheless, Gerald checked the surveillance footage right away. The footage showed Josephine leaving the hotel room an hour ago and heading for the elevator.
However, there was no sign of her in the elevators. Therefore, she might have taken the stairs. instead.
Gerald also checked the surveillance footage in the lobby, just in case. He was slightly relieved after discovering Josephine had never exited through the hotel lobby.
He made a copy of the footage and showed it to Lewis. Lewis simply glanced at the footage before hurling the tablet back at him and leaving the room. Gerald gathered some people to search the stairs.
This hotel was the largest property under Gerald and comprised more than thirty floors. It would take some time to search the whole premise.
Lewis started searching from the eighteenth floor and headed up while Gerald’s men searched upward from the first floor.
They searched for over an hour, leaving no garbage can unturned, but still found no signs of Josephine.
Lewis searched his way down again from the top floor to the lobby.
He rubbed his temple as he sat on the lobby sofa. Although he said nothing, Gerald was
already sweating profusely.
Gerald said softly, “Don’t worry, Chairman Alvarez. I’ve sent some men to search every single floor. We’re checking the surveillance footage too. We’ll find her, for sure.”
Lewis, his eyes closed, ignored him while he rambled on.
Seth returned to both of them sitting together in an unsettling atmosphere.
He walked up to Lewis and asked, “What’s up? You lost her again?”
Lewis sighed and leaned back into the sofa. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it.
His reaction spoke volumes-that little mute was missing again.
Seth sat too. He helped himself to a cigarette from the table and lit it. Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Gerald was reporting their findings next to them. After grasping the situation, Seth looked up at Gerald and asked, “Did you say you lost track of her after she entered the stairway?”
“That’s right. Weird, isn’t it?” Gerald scratched his head.
“Aren’t there any surveillance cameras in the stairway?”
Gerald scratched his head as he said sheepishly, “Why would I install them in the stairway…”
“The stairs can lead to the parking lot, can’t they? Have you searched the parking lot?”
Gerald nodded. “I did. Chairman Alvarez searched it once already, but I sent my men down for another round of search to ensure we didn’t miss any corner.”
After all, the parking lot comprised two levels; it was vast.
Listening to him, Seth leaned over and tapped the ashes off his cigarette. He cast a glance at Lewis and said slowly, “What if someone took her away from the parking lot? Will you still be
able to find her?”
His question triggered more intense sweating from Gerald.
The surveillance cameras had blindspots; their coverage wasn’t whole. It would be very troublesome if someone brought Josephine into a car within the blindspots of the surveillance. cameras and drove out of the parking lot.
“I-It can’t be…”
“Why not?” Seth chuckled. “Eyes are on her every second of the day. That person would never let any opportunity pass him by.”
He clearly wasn’t speaking about Lewis; it was someone else.
Lewis kept silent.
Gerald wasn’t familiar with the twists and turns among them. He anxiously asked, “What should we do, then?”
“Locate her.”
Seth took out his phone. Before he could turn it on, Lewis said, “There’s no need.”
Then, he materialized a white watch and cast it on the round glass table.
Seth’s eyes flickered when he saw it.
He picked it up and examined it. He concluded, “It’s the one Josephine wore. Did someone take it off?”
Lewis answered, “Found it in the parking lot.”
It dawned on Gerald. No wonder Lewis stopped searching after he came up from the parking lot. Did this mean someone had taken Josephine away?
Seth doused his cigarette and got up to leave.
Gerald chipped in, “I’ll look for her.”
It was no trivial matter if someone actually did abduct Josephine.
Gerald took two steps before stopping and looking back at Lewis. Lewis continued smoking with a sullen expression. He barely spoke, not to mention unleashing his wrath on Gerald.
Could it be that Lewis knew who the perpetrator was?
Gerald scratched his flappy stomach. After mulling over it, he contacted some helpers to
continue the search.
He had a hunch that Josephine’s disappearance this time differed from the last.
Meanwhile, Josephine was in a car. She leaned against the car door and looked out the window. The roads whizzing by outside were strange to her.
She was almost certain that she had strayed from the familiar part of Hardington.
Disheartened, Josephine withdrew her gaze and looked at the man beside her.
Inside the dimly lit car, the man returned her gaze. Occasionally, lights reflected off his glasses dazzlingly.
Josephine gestured, “How long will it be before I can meet Lewis?”
Kiran stared at her slender fingers. He pondered for several moments before saying, “I don’t understand.”
Josephine pressed her lips together and dropped her hands resignedly.
He told her he would bring her to Lewis, so she thought he could understand her.
Kiran’s voice rang out again. “But you’ll see him very soon.”
Josephine’s sober eyes lit up again.
Kiran’s lips curved, and he stopped talking to her.
The car fell silent.
Josephine looked out at the night view. Hardington’s night view was stunning. It was nothing
like the larger cities, full of flashing lights representing temptations and worldly
entertainment; instead, lamps and fairy lights adorned the streets here. There were also occasional bursts of fireworks. The merry vibe of the new year filled the air.
After who knew how long, the flickering lamps and colorful fairy lights slowly vanished.
The streets were barren once again, and the light grew dim. There was nothing but darkness on the streets. Josephine grew anxious.
Soon, the car stopped.
“Sir, we’re here,” informed the driver, who immediately got down and opened the door for
Kiran.
Kiran instructed Josephine, “Come on, get out.”
Josephine was desperate to meet Lewis. She swiftly opened the door and followed Kiran down.
The cool sea breeze welcomed her once she stepped out of the car, ruffling her silky hair.
Barefeet, she stood on the smooth sand while her eyes darted blankly around her.
She was on the beach, and a very remote one at that. There was no one here except for them. Josephine looked inquiringly at Kiran as though asking him where Lewis was.
