Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Brandon had already hit the road, stepping straight into his private lift With a long finger, he pressed the button, and the elevator doors began to close slowly kent, who was hot on his heels, only managed to catch a glimpse of the tautness on Brandon’s handsome face before the doors shut
Heading straight down to the basement parking lot, Brandon hadn’t even reached his car before his hand was already
ishing out the car keys and hitting the unlock button With a soft “beep,” the car unlocked.
Brandon strode up yanking the car door open and sliding into the driver’s seat. He buckled up without a second thought
hipped out his phone to give Sophia a ring.
After a few tones, the call was finally picked up
“Hello” Sophia’s familiar soft voice came through but Brandon, expressionless, hung up the call in a flash and tossed the phone aside. He had expected this yet for some reason, he had to confirm it.
Sophia, who had just scrambled out of the taxi, glanced at her phone, puzzled. She had just rushed back to the airport and was about to step out when her phone began to ring. She was feeling a bit queasy-maybe it was motion sickness
something and was in a hurry, so she answered the call without a second glance, only to find the caller hung up
without saying a word.
After a few seconds of busy tones, the screen reverted back to the home interface.
Sophia hesitated for a moment then tapped to view her recent call log. She immediately recognized the number at the top of the list, even without a saved name After all, two years of marriage had made that number all too familiar.
She wasn’t sure if Brandon was reaching out for something or had dialed her by accident. Her finger hovered over the screen debating whether to call back, but the hesitation made her stop halfway.
In the end Sophia didn’t call back
She stowed her phone, swallowing down the waves of nausea, and turned towards the security checkpoint.
Sophia, over here!”
As she entered the security hall, she spotted Susan and Ivan waiting by the security lane.
Ivan’s gaze settled on her, though his expression remained steady
Susan was frantically waving her over, shouting. Over here, over here!” This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
Sophia walked towards her, sneaking a glance at her watch. Thankfully, there was still plenty of time, and her quick trip
home hadn’t caused much delay.
But Susan was like a cat on a hot tin roof, grabbing Sophia and shoving her towards the checkpoint, “Hurry up, don’t
miss your flight
The jostling only made Sophia’s upset stomach churn even more
Ivan, ever so observant, noticed her slightly pale face and frowned. “You okay?”
Sophia shook her head, “I’m fine, just rushed a bit and got a little carsick
Ivan nodded. saying no more
Susan handed over a bottle of water, “Have a drink, take it easy
Then, turning to Ivan, she instructed, “Ivan, take good care of Sophia from now on
Sophia almost choked, feeling Susan’s words were a bit out of line considening she and Ivan weren’t that close. Worried Susan might keep running her mouth Sophia quickly twisted the cap back on the water and handed it back. ‘Okay, were heading in now I’ll call you when i get there”
Sunan pushed her off. “Go on, safe travels.
As the said it, a hint of sadness crept into her voice, and she moved in for a hug.
study. Why you gotta go so far? Her voice trembling with the threat of tears
Sophia, now caught up in the emotional moment, gently patted her back but didn’t respond.
Sometimes, setting off on a journey is just another way of running away.
The memory of the call that was picked up and dropped suddenly pierced her heart.
Sophia pursed her lips, forcing her thoughts back to the present and smiled at Susan, “It’s only two years, it’ll fly by. It’s not like I’m not coming back.”
Susan nodded, her eyes red, reluctantly letting go.
Sophia had booked an economy seat, and there was quite a crowd at the security checkpoint.
She couldn’t be sure whether Ivan had booked economy as well. He queued up behind her, and they didn’t talk much, but whenever the crowd pushed through, Ivan would considerately shield her with his arm.
In that way, he was a lot like Brandon.
In certain respects, Ivan and Brandon seemed to share some similarities-not in looks, but in demeanor and the way they carried themselves. Both were calm and modest, both courteous and polite, yet kept everyone at arm’s length with a gentle, caring side to their character.
Such men were undeniably charming but falling for them could hurt just as much.
Their reservedness wasn’t personal, yet they made no exceptions for anyone.
Sophia never dared to hope she could be Brandon’s exception She wondered if Phoebe might be, curious about what Brandon out of control, for a woman, would look like. Unfortunately, she never got the chance to see it.
As Sophia retrieved her documents from the staff and walked towards the security scanner, the nearby elevator came to a smooth stop, the doors opened, and Brandon emerged with the crowd, his eyes scanning the flight information on the big screen at the terminal entrance.
He easily spotted the flight info for West district to Wye City on the scrolling screen. The flight hadn’t taken off yet. It was still boarding.
Brandon turned towards the long line at the security checkpoint.
His dark eyes swept over the crowd, but he didn’t spot anyone
familiar.
His gaze passed through the checkpoint to the glass wall behind the machines, where he caught a glimpse of Sophial picking up her documents and bag from the conveyor.
His eyes lingered for a moment, but the slender figure of Sophia was quickly obscured by the throng.
Brandon looked away, heading to the check-in counter, pulling out his ID, and handing it to the staff member.
“Hello, I’d like to book a ticket, first class.”
The staff member asked, “Sure, where are you flying to? What time?”
Brandon replied indifferently, “Doesn’t matter.”
The staff member gave him a puzzled look but quickly issued the ticket.
Brandon breezed through the first-class security lane and strutted into the waiting area, heading straight for Gate 22 where Sophia was chilling for her flight,
