Chapter 573
Chapter 573
Seeing Damian's look, Meredith knew that he might not be able to give an answer in a short time.
Although it was understandable, she did not want to see her best friend getting hurt at this time. That
was why she was being so nosy.
"I'm not pushing you. I just want you to think about what I said carefully. Considering Penelope's
condition now, she will only feel worse if you continue to keep her away from meeting your family."
"Well, what you said makes sense. I'll think about it."
Damian said seriously. Meredith nodded. "You surely need time to think about it, but I hope you can
make the decision as soon as possible, whether you choose to take the possible risks in the future, or...
to give up this relationship. Just don't waste her time."
Meredith said seriously. She really hoped that her good friend would be happy.
It was rare for Damian to show his confusion. He needed to be alone and think about it.
"Go in and see her. Have a chat with her. I'm leaving for now."
Damian left after saying that. Staring at his back, Meredith sighed. She really wished that Damian could
come back and tell Penelope he didn't care about anything other than facing whatever was coming with
her.
If he did, Meredith would not worry about Penelope anymore.
Meredith walked into the ward. Penelope was sitting on the bed. Feeling someone coming, she looked
over, although she could not see anything now.
"Penelope, I'm here. I just came back from Capital City yesterday. I'm sorry that I wasn't here with you."
Meredith said guiltily. She had wanted to come back to take care of Penelope but failed to do that due
to the situation.
"It's okay. My parents are here. I don't need so many people."
Penelope shook her head. "I heard what you said just now."
"Do you think I'm a little nosy?"
Meredith made a joke. It seemed like she was being a busybody by saying all those things. But the only
reason she said that was she did care about Penelope.
"Of course not. Actually, I was thinking about saying those things to him by myself. I just didn't know
how to start."
Penelope looked a little upset.
In fact, she had wished that Damian would choose her no matter what his family thought.
But he didn't say that.
After they had spent so much time together, Penelope had learned a lot about Damian. She knew that
he had lost his father when he was only a kid and was raised by his mother alone. As an ordinary man
without a family background, he worked so hard to get in the position of Derek's assistant. He had a
bright future.
Even when she was healthy, his mother might not accept her, let alone the way she was now.
Therefore, it was totally understandable that Damian hesitated. But why did it still hurt her so much...
Penelope couldn't help but laugh at herself. In the past, she would never have cared about a man so
much. If any man dared to offend her, she would just kick him away directly.
"Penelope, if you're going to be together, sooner or later you will have to face these problems. I would
rather let him make a choice earlier so that you won't get more hurt in the future, just like what I'm
going through now..."
Somehow Meredith thought of herself.
She shared too many memories with Derek. They even had a child. It was hard to cut off their
relationship completely.
"Are you going to break up with Derek?"
Penelope reached out to her. Meredith grabbed her hand quickly. The back of her hand was cold.
"I suppose so. It turns out that we are just unsuited to each other."
Meredith calmed herself down. "Let's move on, Penelope. Do you want something to eat? I'll stop at
the market on the way to take Easton home today. Let me know if you want anything."
Penelope shook her head. She didn't want anything now. All seemed to be over to her.
Seeing Penelope getting upset again, Meredith comforted her at once. "Don't be anxious. Now that the
operation is a success, it's only a matter of time for the recovery of your eyes. My lost memories came
back eventually for no reason. You will be fine too."
Knowing that Meredith was trying to help, Penelope nodded. "I'm fine. Don't worry about me."
Meredith stayed for a while. They chatted till the time for Meredith to pick up Easton from school.
"You can go take Easton home first. The others will take care of me. Don't worry."
Meredith nodded. "Okay, I'll go back first. Just call me if you need anything. I'll be here as soon as
possible."
After that, Meredith left the ward.
Silence returned to the room. Penelope sighed.
Damian hadn't come back yet. Was he going to give up?
...
The class was over. Easton stood outside the classroom with lots of books and papers in his hands. He
hadn't come to school for a long time, so the teacher assigned him a lot of homework to finish and told
him to make up for the lessons he missed at home.
It gave Easton a headache. He wouldn't be able to finish so much homework until next semester. An
idea occurred to him. Why not throw them away to a place that no one could find and tell the others
those books were just lost. In this way, he wouldn't have to make up for his homework.
It made more sense every time he thought about it. Before anyone could pick him up, he sneaked to a
distant trash can. As he was about to throw his books away, someone spoke to him in a sweet voice.
"Excuse me, are you going to throw these things away?"
A girl dressed in plain clothes looked at Easton timidly. She stared at the book in his hand with a look of
envy.
"No... No!"
Easton didn't know her, but he felt that what he was about to do wasn't something to be proud of. So he
lied, pretending nothing happened.
"Oh, really? I thought you didn't want them. Can you give them to me if you don't want them?"
The little girl hesitated for a moment and asked eventually in a low voice.
Easton thought about it for a moment. Of course, he didn't want them. These books were useless to
him, but maybe they were useful to her. "Well, here they are. Don't tell anyone I gave them to you. I will
be in trouble if my teacher knows."
"Thanks, I got it. I'll say I pick them up in the street."
The little girl nodded obediently and took over the books. She checked them over, tore off the pages
with him name on them, and put them in her school bag. Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Seeing her behavior, Easton heaved a sigh of relief.
"Well, your name is Easton, right?"
Easton nodded.
"Thank you. My name is Fiona."
