Chapter 724 Identical Face
Avery decided to return to the hospital first. At her strong insistence, Alina returned home to rest.
After sending the twins back to school, Cayden went straight to Trident Group.
After returning to the hospital, Avery found that Blake had not yet awakened from his faint. Xavier was still keeping vigil in the ward.
Avery gratefully smiled at Xavier. Looking at her unconscious grandfather, she said sadly, “Thank you, Mr. Dartsley, for your help this time. Cecelia is at home taking care of the two children; she must be overwhelmed. You should go back first.”
She felt rather bad.
Although Xavier was an assistant, and he was always called upon to help with matters big and small, he, too, needed his own time and had personal affairs to attend to.
Besides, he and Cecelia now had two children. They were busy every day. She would try not to bother him in the future.
Xavier glanced at Blake. Seeing that his condition had stabilized, he said, “All right. Ms. Rumpley, I'll be taking my leave now. If there's anything else, feel free to contact me.”
“Mm-hmm.”
After Xavier left, Avery sat down on the chair next to the sickbed. She carefully held her grandfather's
hand. “Grandpa, I'm sorry, it's all my fault. If I had been by your side all along, perhaps this accident wouldn't have happened...”
The only response to her was the steady drip of the IV, but Blake remained unconscious.
Yuvan mentioned that after Blake's surgery, it would take some time for him to fully regain consciousness.
Even though he was in a coma, it would be greatly beneficial to his recovery to talk to him often. This might stimulate him to wake up sooner.
Avery clearly took Yuvan's advice to heart. Even though she knew her grandfather might not be able to hear her, she held his hand gently, speaking continuously. Most of what she talked about were stories from her childhood.
She was raised by her grandfather since she was a little girl, always by his side during her childhood. Her affection for her grandfather ran incredibly deep.
But ever since she started high school, the time she spent with her grandfather became scarce. Back then, she didn't understand the value of cherishing these moments—always thinking that there was plenty of time ahead. She wanted to focus on her studies, work, and earn money, believing that this was the only way she could provide him with better living conditions.
Every time she left home, her grandfather would always stand reluctantly at the entrance of the village. He would watch her depart as he silently wiped away his tears.
Before, she was completely oblivious to this, but she now understood that what the elderly truly needed wasn't a sum of money, but the companionship of their grandchild.
Tears shimmered in Avery's eyes as she fought back her sorrow, whispering softly, “Grandpa, please wake up. I've found the grandson-in-law you've always been talking about. He even came to see you today. Don't you want to meet him? I'm sorry, Grandpa. I've been so consumed with work and always thought you would stay so robust and healthy forever. I didn't take the time to be with you. I was wrong... Grandpa, I hope you get better soon. Once you're well, I'll take you on a trip. You've always been talking about going back to your hometown, haven't you? When you've recovered, I'll take you back to stay for a few days. How does that sound?”
At Trident Group, the moment Cayden, dressed in a suit and leather shoes, appeared at the company, he caused quite a stir.
That was especially so for the female employees in the company, whose eyes were practically sparkling with excitement. Some of them couldn't even believe they were seeing the CEO in person. They rubbed their eyes in disbelief and started to whisper and gossip quietly.
“Oh my goodness, is... is that our CEO? Can someone pinch me, please? I need to know if I'm seeing things!”
“Could that be someone who looks like our CEO? Hasn't the CEO already... However, he really does look exactly like our CEO. He's so handsome! Very handsome!”
“Are you an idiot? If he isn't the CEO, why would he show up at our company? Do you see that? He's waiting for the CEO's exclusive elevator. That elevator requires face and fingerprint recognition, so ordinary employees can't use it at all. I think he's our CEO...”
Among them, a slightly bold female employee from the commerce department meticulously adjusted her attire. Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
With a heart full of excitement, she walked over here and tentatively greeted Cayden, who was waiting in front of the CEO's elevator. “M-Mr. Moore, you're back?”
With a handsome face devoid of emotion, Cayden gave her a nod, simply responding, “Mm-hmm.”
The moment he began to speak, the elevator of the CEO chimed, coming to a halt on the first floor.
The tall and imposing man entered the elevator.
The elevator doors closed, and that godlike handsome face simply vanished before their eyes.
“Oh my goodness, he really is our CEO, I'm sure of it. Only Mr. Moore could have such a perfectly captivating face, and that sexy, magnetic voice that's so familiar. Mr. Moore is back!” The female employee from the commerce department hurried back to the elevator, her face flushed with excitement as she gossiped about the news she had just discovered to the others.
Upon hearing this, the other female employees immediately began chattering, bubbling with excitement. They conversed non-stop, and some even let out exaggerated screams of surprise.
Just as Wisteria entered from outside, she saw their noisy and rowdy behavior. Immediately, an icy look crept onto her pretty face as she scolded sternly, “What's happening? Yelling and making a scene during work hours? This behavior is unacceptable. Return to work immediately!”
Wisteria's outburst startled several female employees, causing their previous cheers and excitement to instantly dissipate.
Within the group was the female employee from the commerce department, who addressed her in a soft and conciliatory manner, saying, “Ms. Summers, we just noticed the CEO's return, and we got exceptionally excited, which led to our raised voices. We assure you that it won't happen again.”
Wisteria was a renowned figure at Trident Group, and her reputation wasn't solely based on her striking looks, exceptional work skills, and formidable abilities. It was also because she was exceptionally choosy when it came to selecting a partner, and her temperament resembled that of a stern, old-school martial arts master.
Especially during the two years when the CEO had been absent from the company, Wisteria, who was originally quite aloof, appeared to have become even more enigmatic and eccentric. Except for a handful of top executives within the company, no other employees dared to cross her, let alone pursue any kind of relationship with her.
Outwardly, the female employees showed the utmost respect to Wisteria, but in private, they had given her a nickname— “Witch Summers.”
Upon hearing the response from the female staff member in the commerce department, Wisteria felt as if she had been hit by a bolt from the blue and asked in disbelief, “What did you say? Mr. Moore is back? When did this happen?”
The female employee was taken aback by Wisteria's frightening expression, and her composure was rattled for a few seconds. She stammered, “Just... just now... Mr. Moore took the elevator upstairs...”
Just as they were speaking, the staff elevator arrived.
Wisteria was the first to dart into the elevator. Before the other employees could even step in, she quickly pressed the button for her desired floor and immediately hit the close button.
The elevator isolated everyone else, effectively cutting off their dissatisfaction and murmurs.
Cayden had returned.
This news was akin to a ray of hope breaking through a sky filled with gloomy dust, instantly rekindling Wisteria's once quiet heart. The more it burned, the more brilliantly it shone.
