Chapter 40
Chapter 40
Allison suddenly felt a knot in her stomach, sensing his scrutinizing gaze lingering on her face. Her voice even trembled slightly, “I’m not Allison; can’t you tell us apart?”
She had a tinge of hope when she said this but instantly regretted it once the words left her mouth. What would she do if he realized she wasn’t Penelope? How would she explain everything that had happened?
Just when Allison was stressing out, the boarding announcement came from the loudspeakers.
Swiftly changing the subject, Allison said, “Take care on your journey and good luck with work. I… I’ll be waiting for your return.”
When Allison smiled, her red lips were as bright and beautiful as a blooming rose.
Allison personally saw him off, watching the plane until it was a mere speck in the sky. The sparkle in her eyes dimmed as the plane disappeared.
Lucian, when you return, the woman you love, Penelope, will be back too. Thank you for these past few days. I’m sorry for deceiving you in this way. I never wanted this.
Penelope will wait for your return.
And just as you wish, Allison will disappear from your sight.
When Allison returned to the Flanagan family, only Christopher was home.
She went straight to the study and informed Christopher about Lucian’s trip to the Lindberg Corporation subsidiaryBelongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
“Allison, you’ve really been a trooper these past days.” Christopher pulled out a card from a drawer, “Here’s 20,000 dollars for your mother’s medical bills. If it’s not enough, let me know. As for the kidney, I’ve got someone on it, but they’re not easy to come by…”
“Thank you.” Allison understood that finding a kidney donor was a matter of luck.
“I need a favor.” Allison bit her lip, hesitating before she spoke, “I’ve fallen behind on my courses because I’ve been taking care of my mom. I might not graduate on time because I failed one.”
Christopher nodded, “I’m old buddies with the vice principal of Willowbrook College. I’ll talk to him about it. Don’t worry; just take care of your mom.”
“Thank you.”
After thanking him, Allison left the study just as Leah returned from the hospital.
“Where have you been these past few days? Messing around with some guy? What were you talking about in the study?” Leah always had a sharp tongue, but Allison didn’t explain or pay her any mind, “We didn’t talk about much. Why don’t you ask him yourself?”
Leah squinted her eyes. Allison rarely ventured upstairs unless she was heading to the study to see Christopher.
With this in mind, she hurried upstairs and casually asked, “What did Allison want?”
Christopher was engrossed in paperwork when he heard this and slammed the paper down. Looking at Leah, he sighed deeply. “Leah, don’t think for a second that I don’t know what you did in the hospital. You moved Grace to the hallway and refused to pay her medical bills. Grace is Joshua’s wife; how could you do this?”
Upon mentioning this, Leah’s face went pale.
She knew that little brat Allison would tattle!
She was just like her despicable mother!
“Is this really about Joshua? Or is it because Grace is your old flame?”
“Shut up!” Christopher slammed his hand on the desk.
Leah was startled by his outburst, but she remained defiant, “I hit the nail on the head, didn’t I? It’s all about Grace!”
From the first time she saw Allison, she thought Allison and her daughter Penelope looked so alike…
She would’ve thought Allison was Christopher and Grace’s illegitimate child if it weren’t for the paternity test.
She wouldn’t let Allison or Grace have an easy life!
