Chapter 1103 Lost Twice
Artemis nodded slightly.
There should be no harm in admitting this since it's not exactly a minefield.
Unexpectedly, Bailey's expression abruptly changed following his slight nod.
“Are you sure you received the intelligence at the same time?”
“I arrived a bit earlier than her, but not by much. Originally, I planned to act alone without her
knowledge. But—”
Bailey interrupted him with a wave of her hand, then fell into deep contemplation.
As if struck by a thought, her expression grew increasingly grim, and her face darkened. She subtly
emitted an intense aura of murder.
Artemis could also sense that something was amiss.
Bailey's reaction didn't seem to stem from jealousy.
He knew her well, and she wouldn't connect him with Rebecca without substantial evidence, let alone
blindly assume there was something going on between them.
There must be another reason for her current expression.
“Have you thought of something, Bay?”
Bailey didn't respond. Instead, she turned to Cassius and ordered in a low voice, “Turn back
immediately. Inform everyone to surround the entire winery and not let anyone escape.”
“Understood.”
The screech of tires echoed through the air as the car, under Cassius' superb driving skills, swiftly
turned around. Then, it sped back the way it came.
Artemis was somewhat baffled, wondering if Bailey was going through menopause early.
“Can you give me a hint, Ms. Jefferson? What on earth is going on here?”
Bailey glared at him, gritting her teeth. “We've been played by Faceless. The information you received
is accurate, and Orion is indeed hidden at the winery.”
Artemis was taken aback.
After a few seconds of silence, he slowly frowned.
“You're saying she knew I had the intel and that Orion's hideout would be exposed, so she decided to
beat me at my own game and deliberately leaked the information to Rebecca? She lured us to the
winery to set us up and divert our attention to cover up the fact that Orion is hiding at the winery.”
Clenching her jaw tightly, Bailey snarled, “So, it turns out that I didn't just lose once today, but twice. I
just knew it! How could Tarragon's intelligence network possibly receive false information when it's so
secure? Now that I think about it carefully, the information you received is true, while the information
Rebecca received was deliberately arranged by Faceless. She lured both of you to the winery and into
a trap so that you'd assume Orion was not there. It was all part of her scheme. Reflecting upon it now,
she killed two birds with one stone. She set you and Rebecca up and successfully diverted your
attention, effectively hiding Orion's whereabouts.”
Faceless is truly cunning! I've been sensing something off, and it all makes sense now.
She continued, “Unfortunately, we've only just realized it, so it's likely too late. Even if we rush over
now, they'll likely be gone.”
As Bailey had predicted, Orion was indeed confined in a courtyard in the winery.
When they had left previously, both parties had already removed their men from the winery.
Even though they returned at the fastest speed possible, they were still too late.
When Bailey and the others left, Faceless had already ordered for Orion to be moved. She even
deliberately left a note in the courtyard.
It read: You've lost twice at the very beginning, Bailey. If you want to beat me, you'll have to step up
your game. I'm looking forward to our second face-off.
Reading the note, Bailey was so furious that she laughed aloud.
Although she managed to save Artemis' innocence, she still allowed Orion to be transported away right
under her nose.
When it came down to it, she still wasn't a match for Faceless.
Just as the latter said, she had lost that round.
“Shall I send someone after them, Ms. Bailey?”
Bailey shook her head and lamented, “She has already fled far. If she were an ordinary person,
perhaps we could catch her. But she's a master of disguise, capable of changing her appearance and
tricking others. You aren't a match for her.”
Having said that, she fell silent.
A moment later, she added, “She believes that Artemis had gotten close to Rebecca, and she has
successfully incited my anger. She must be waiting for Artemis and me to wear each other down now.
Then, she'll prepare a major move against me. When I'm thoroughly defeated, she'll show up and use
Orion as a bargaining chip.”
“So, you want me to spread rumors of discord between you and Mr. Luther, then strike hard when
Faceless lowers her guard, Ms. Bailey?”
“Yeah.”
After scanning the courtyard and finding nothing suspicious, Bailey finally walked away.
When she returned to the car, she saw Artemis with his eyes closed, leaning back palely against his
seat, his breathing seemingly labored. He exuded a sense of sickly weakness.
She quickly leaned in and placed her hand against his forehead.
“Are you feeling unwell? How's your breathing? Is it very rapid?”
A twinge of regret hit her. I should have sent him home first when we were halfway there.
“Drive faster, Cassius.”
“Understood.”
Artemis reached out and grasped her fingers on his forehead. He asked hoarsely, “How's the
situation?”
Seeing him in such a state, Bailey couldn't bear to ignore him. She quickly replied, “We're a step too
late, but that's to be expected. She had it all planned out. Don't worry about this for now. Just close
your eyes and rest. Once we get back, I'll give you a couple of injections. You'll feel better then.”
Indeed, Artemis was utterly exhausted, and he was exceedingly weak. Despite the bumpy drive, he
somehow managed to drift off.
Staring at his deeply furrowed brows, Bailey couldn't help but reach out and smooth them out.
“Ken, what has he been up to these past few days?”
If it were just the single shot he suffered, it shouldn't have made him this weak and exhausted.
Ken briefly outlined Artemis' schedule for the past few days. At the end of it, he didn't forget to defend
his employer. “Mrs. Luther, Mr. Luther rarely interacts with Ms. Sutton. In my opinion, there's absolutely
nothing ambiguous about their relationship. Things are platonic between them. Please don't
misunderstand. The last thing lovers need is mutual distrust.”
Bailey gently stroked Artemis' eyebrows, her puzzlement intensifying.
What is he hiding from me exactly? Even when I misunderstood his relationship with Rebecca, he
refused to provide me with a reasonable explanation. Could there possibly be some undisclosed history
between them?
When Artemis regained consciousness, he found himself in the infirmary.
He scanned the room, but Bailey was nowhere to be seen. Only Ken was standing by his bedside.
He attempted to sit up, but Ken gently pushed him back down.
"Where is Bailey?"
Ken touched his nose and reluctantly replied, "Mrs. Luther is helping to clean up the mess you made."
Artemis let out a sigh of relief.
He had thought she was angry and had returned to the countryside. NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
His eyes wandered around the room once more before finally settling on the red brocade on the couch.
"That must be the wedding gown she has been sewing, and it appears to be halfway done."
"Bring that brocade over here."
Nodding in acknowledgment, Ken walked towards the couch.
By the time he returned with the red brocade, Artemis had already propped himself up against the
headboard.
"Mr. Luther, your injuries are too severe, and you need to lie back down."
