Millie went back to the villa to retrieve the ring, but when she keyed in the password to open the door, she heard a robotic voice stating, ” Error. You have keyed in the wrong password.”
She took another look at the house to confirm that it was Winston’s place before keying in the password again. Once more, it said she had used the wrong password.
Did the password change?
After Millie failed the key in the password for the third time and also failed to unlock the door through the fingerprint scanner, the alarm started beeping. She was now certain she was right–the password had been changed. 2
It was as expected of Winston. He had done it so quickly.
Millie wondered just how deep his disdain for her ran. Was he so keen to never see her in this house again? He had already changed the password when she had only left two days ago.
She got her phone out and was just about to call Winston when the door opened, and a familiar voice rang out.
“Mills?”
Millie swiftly turned around and immediately recognized Joanna, who was wearing a man’s shirt with her legs bare.
Joanna’s face flushed red. There was a bright red mark on her neck, and her hair was scattered down her back. Something about her made her look positively seductive.
“Who’s there, Jo?” Winston called out from the living room.
Millie looked behind Joanna and saw Winston, who was wearing a dressing robe and drying his hair with a towel.
Joanna turned around and walked over to Winston. Smiling, she circled her arms around his waist and said sweetly, “Are you done with your shower? Mills is here.”
As Millie took in Joanna and Winston’s intimate behavior, she felt something squeezing her heart, making it pound wildly. Balling her fists, she could not bring herself to imagine what had happened between them in the house just now.
In all her years of marriage to Winston, he rarely came home. He always claimed he was busy.
It had all been an excuse, of course. He simply chose not to come back to this house because she wasn’t worth it.
Winston looked at Millie with an emotionless expression. “You’re back for the ring?”
Millie hummed in acknowledgment.
“It’s upstairs. Get it yourself,” he said before heading off to get changed.
Millie bit her lip.
Once Winston left, Joanna assumed the role of the lady of the house and said, “I’ll take you there, Mills.”
Millie’s eyes flashed with repulsion as she eyed Joanna before saying, “I can find it myself. I don’t need an outsider to take me there.”
“An outsider?” Joanna snorted, finally dropping her act. “Millie, I’ve always been the lady of this house. You’re just a substitute.”
Millie glanced at Joanna.
A substitute, huh? As it was, she found no words to refute Joanna.
Millie marched upstairs and went to Winston’s study. When she
opened the third drawer, her hand paused.
All of the presents she had ever given Winston were stuffed inside the drawer like a pile of junk. They hadn’t even been unwrapped.
Throughout these years, she kept trying to give the best things she could to Winston, forgetting that he never needed that from her.
Frowning, Millie searched through the presents to look for the ring. The more she looked through the drawer, the more upset she
became.
If anything, this proved one thing to her–Winston never loved her.
“You haven’t found it yet?” Joanna remarked mockingly. “Are you really here to look for a ring? Don’t tell me you’re just trying to get Winston’s attention because you regret agreeing to the divorce.”
Ignoring her, Millie was just about to give up when she spotted a black box in the corner.
She found the ring.
Millie closed the drawer and straightened up to look at Joanna who was eyeing her with hostility.
“Sorry to have disturbed you two,” Millie said before she started heading toward the door.
Joanna grabbed Millie’s arm, making her stop in her tracks. She looked at Joanna and waited for the latter to speak.
“If you knew what’s good for you, Millie, you’d finalize the divorce. with Win as soon as possible,” Joanna declared threateningly.
Smirking, Millie flung Joanna’s hand off her before saying sarcastically, “Regardless of when the divorce is finalized, you’ll eventually be Mrs. Winston Greer, so why are you so impatient?”
That got Joanna riled up. “Don’t bother trying to be sarcastic with
me, Millie! You’ve hogged the position that rightfully belonged to me for three years now! Don’t you feel ashamed of yourself?”
Eyeing her coldly, Millie replied, “You’re the one who’s not good enough to receive the Greers‘ favor. How did I hog anything?”
“You’re so shameless, Millie!” Joanna fumed as she clenched her jaw.
“I guess. After all, why would I need to worry about being shameless when I’m dealing with you?” Millie commented with a sigh.
Joanna turned red with anger.
Millie walked over to the staircase, but she paused and turned back around to look at Joanna.
Though her expression was neutral, her gaze flashed menacingly. Since you’re accusing me of hogging the position of Winston’s wife, should I also tell the world that the one who got into medical school through connections wasn’t me after all?”
Upon hearing that, Joanna trembled. She felt a chill run down her spine.
“What are you trying to imply, Millie?” she snapped.
“I’m implying that I’ll expose the truth, of course,” Millie replied with a smirk, her gaze still threatening.
Back then, the medical school only took in a limited number of
candidates, and Joanna performed poorly during the examination. However, she cried her heart out and insisted on attending the same university as Millie.
The Lowells tried to use their connections to pull some strings for Joanna, to no avail. In the end, it was Millie who gave up her spot because she felt bad for Joanna. That was how Joanna made it into medical school. NôvelDrama.Org is the owner.
Nevertheless, the medical school didn’t want to lose such a talented student like Millie who came from a family of medical experts, so
they took her in as well.
Yet, somehow, everyone started saying that Millie got into medical school by relying on connections…
Joanna hastily grabbed Millie’s arm. Glaring at Mie, she uttered through gritted teeth, “Don’t you dare!”
The Greers already disliked Joanna and thought she wasn’t as good as Millie. Things would only get worse if Millie exposed the truth about how she got into medical school.
Millie pursed her lips and met Joanna’s gaze, saying quietly, “Oh, but I dare.”
Joanna tightened her grip around Millie’s arm, wishing she could. sink her nails right into Millie’s flesh.
The two women continued to stare at each other. Joanna’s gaze was filled with hatred.
“Millie, do you think you can get Winston’s love just by destroying my reputation?” Joanna snarled. “He’ll never love you! He’ll only hate you even more!”
As the atmosphere grew even more heated, the sound of footsteps rang out.
Joanna’s eyelashes trembled. She continued to look at Millie, but the fury in her eyes was slowly replaced by a flash of cunning.
“Joanna started saying
“Mills, I just love Win too much. I’m sorr-” Joanna before she pulled Millie’s arm toward her own face and slapped herself.
The loud slap broke off Joanna’s pleading apology.
As soon as Winston approached, he saw Millie giving Joanna a harsh slap on the face.
“Millie!” he roared in fury.
Millie froze briefly before she scrambled to shake Joanna off her.
She turned around to look at Winston, but before she could explain what happened, Joanna screamed and started tethering as though she was about to fall down the staircase.
“Jo!” Winston cried out anxiously.
Millie instinctively tried to pull Joanna back, but she felt something tugging on her waist. She couldn’t stop herself from stepping backward, her body banging against the banister. Her foot slipped, and she started falling down the staircase, just like Joanna!
Eyes widening in shock, she stretched her hand out toward Winston who was running toward them.
With a terrified expression, Joanna shrieked, “Save me, Win!”
Winston’s pupils widened as he saw both women stretching their hands out toward him.
He rushed forward, and in his panic, he caught one of their wrists.
