Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled

Chapter 500

Chapter 500

Hearing Hannah’s words, I felt a pang in my chest. There was something about this that gave me a gut

feeling of dread. I didn’t resist this time but let Bailey take me to the hospital.

After a series of tests, it turned out that there was indeed an issue with my breast. It was a bit more

serious than before, but fortunately, it was detected early. So, with the right medication and a cheery

disposition, I should be fine.

“Thank you, doctor,” I sighed in relief, accepting the prescription from him, ready to get my medication.

As I was about to take the elevator downstairs to the pharmacy, a man wearing a face mask stepped

out. His accent didn’t sound local, quite foreign actually. He was asking someone nearby, “Excuse me,

do you know if Dr. Karina works in this hospital?”

Karina? I was a bit taken aback at the mention of the name. I couldn’t help but take a second look at

the man. I couldn’t make out his facial features because of the mask, but he had thick eyebrows that

seemed to join together.

“No idea, sorry,” the person he was asking waved him off.

He sighed and stepped out of the elevator. When he saw me, he asked me the same question.

I knew Karina, but I wasn’t sure why this man was looking for her.

“The Dr. Karina you’re looking for, is she a woman?” I asked instead.

His eyes lit up at my question and he nodded eagerly, “Yes, she’s a woman, she’s a miracle worker!”

Hearing him describe Karina as a miracle worker, I was almost certain herring to the Karina I knew. I

smiled slightly, “I don’t exactly know her, but she has tre before. She’s indeed very good at what she

does. Are you looking for her for treatment too?”

He seemed taken aback, as though he was unsure of how to respond. After a fe seconds, he nodded,

“Yes, I need Dr. Karina’s help. Do you have her contact detail

“I don’t have her contact details anymore, but I think I can find a way to get them. C give me your

number? I’ll let you know once I have her number,” I replied.

He seemed desperate to find Karina and quickly gave me his number.

Bailey was waiting for me on the ground floor of the hospital, and I was worried that my conversation

with the man would reveal my acquaintance with Karina, so I quickly left after confirming his number

was correct.

“How are you feeling? Are you okay?” Bailey was already waiting for me when I stepped out of the

elevator, he asked with concern.

“Nothing serious, just got some medication,” I replied nonchalantly, not wanting Bailey to worry about

my health. I then went to collect my medicine and got in Bailey’s car to head home.

Throughout the car ride, I was deep in thought. There seemed to be more and more mysteries

surrounding Karina, and they all somehow seemed to be connected to Russel.

The moment I returned to Bailey’s place, my phone rang. It was the man I met at the hospital, Dylan,

I picked up the call and Dylan said anxiously, “Miss, if you can find Dr. Karina’s contact details for me

soon, I can reward you handsomely. Is that okay?” Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

“Is your condition very serious?” I asked deliberately.

“Uh…” Dylan hesitated, then replied, “Yes, my condition is serious. I need to find her as soon as

possible.”

“Alright.” I didn’t ask any more questions and ended the call.

After hanging up, I immediately contacted a private investigator I knew from before. Depending on his

capabilities, he could extract a wealth of information from just a phone number. The more he could find,

the more I would pay him.

I had a strong feeling that Dylan’s connect with Karina was no ordinary one. He was definitely not there

just to seek medical help from her. Perhaps there was a surprise waiting for me.

The investigator didn’t disappoint me. Two days later, he provided me with detailed information about

Dylan.

Dylan was indeed not from here. The country he was living in was where Karina had been residing all

these years. I initially thought Dylan might be Karina’s colleague overseas. However, to my surprise, he

was a long-term volunteer at a welfare home.

So, he couldn’t be her colleague, let alone her friend. After all, what friend doesn’t have contact details?

So, why was he looking for Karina?

This was the key question. I thought hard but couldn’t come up with a plausible reason. Could it be that

he was genuinely seeking medical help from Karina?

My phone rang at that moment. It was a call from my mom. It had been quite a few days since she last

called me. Was she still upset with me over Russel? I quickly picked up the call.

“Mom,” I greeted her.

“Rena, are you back in Rosemont?” my mom asked in a stern tone.

My heart skipped a beat. It seemed like my mom had found something out and was here to confront

me. Especially with Neil’s situation, if she found out, her heart might not be able to take it.

Just as I was hesitating about how to respond, my mom spoke again, “I’ve heard about the troubles at

Whitmore Co. and the Dawson family. Have they both gone mad? How many innocent people have

they implicated?”

“You and dad both know?” I asked.

“Of course. We’ve been pretty busy lately, but we’ve heard some rumors. What’s going on with Russel?

I never thought he would be so extreme. Isn’t he supposed to be working as a doctor? Where did he

find the time to plan all this?”

I breathed a sigh of relief. Judging by my mom’s tone, she wasn’t here to blame me. In fact, she

seemed to be starting to see Russel’s radical side.

“I’m not entirely sure either. By the time I found out about this, trouble had already started brewing at

Whitmore Co. Neil is handling it now,” I replied, feeling a headache coming on at the mention of the

situation.

My mom sighed, “Is it because of you?”

I wasn’t sure how to answer this question. I felt like part of the reason was indeed because of me, but it

wasn’t entirely my fault.

At that moment, I heard my dad’s voice over the phone, “Rena, just focus on raising the kids from now

on. I don’t think either Russel or Neil would be a good fit for you. They’re both too hot-headed, they

would be difficult to live with!”

This was exactly what I wanted to hear. For a moment, I felt as if a blessing had come out of this

misfortune. At least the pressure from my parents was off.

“Yes, I understand!” I replied without hesitation.

The call from my mom this time was devoid of any reprimands or arguments. We chatted amiably for a

while before ending the call, which greatly eased my tension. With the support of my parents, I felt

more courageous to face the upcoming challenges.

In the blink of an eye, I’ve been back in Rosemont for a couple of days. Over these days, my attention

was riveted on the affairs of Whitmore Co. and the Dawson family. I’m not sure if my words that day

had any effect, but things seemed to have quieted down on Russel’s end, which was evident from the

fluctuations in the stock market.
