I was already dressed and ready to leave when Kade suddenly barged in with the kids crying behind him. 

” Oh God, what happened?” 

” My father’s had a heart attack” Kade said throwing his phone on the table.

” You handle them please.” He said with pleading eyes before he removed his tie and headed upstairs. 

I sat down on the couch and Dani and Damien ran to  me crying their eyes out. It took so much from me to comfort them, they were so upset to miss their sleepover. 

Kade returned from his room dressed in a red sleeve shirt and jeans, he picked up his keys and left without saying another word. Then he came back and looked at me, ” that’s a nice dress but I don’t think you would be needing it, Alvarez had an accident so the party is…over.” He said avoiding eye contact with me before he left. 

Elizabeth came inside from wherever she’s been and quickly sat down on the couch. Her stomach had gotten so large already, her baby must’ve been coming any time soon.

” Why is he so flushed?” she asked me, I suddenly got flustered realizing that the last time we spoke face to face or…something like that was when she caught me about giving Kade a blowjob. 

” His father…I mean your dad has had an heart attack ” I said, stroking Dani’s hair.

” Really?!” Elizabeth asked, I raised my head and looked at her in astonishment.

” Why do you look happy? Isn’t a heart attack a bad thing?” Derrick said and she realized she’d been smiling and her smile dropped.

” Oh.. well I’m not happy, I’m not at all.” She denied and laughed nervously. What is wrong with her?

” Kids go meet Valora or Victoria for a little evening snack.” I said and they pouted their little lips in protest  because they knew it would end up being fruits. I couldn’t understand how they would hate fruits, it’s good for their body and I also really needed time alone with Elizabeth.

” but we don’t wanna,” Damien said wrapping his tiny hands around mine as he looked at me. I suddenly noticed for the first time that his pupils were darker than his siblings’, it made him look more like Kade than Derrick. I suddenly wanted to see Kade’s pictures when he was younger but that would be another day. 

” just go,” I said to Damien and he sulked and charged upstairs angrily. Derrick and Dani followed suit, and this time it was Derrick who was glaring at me! Do I even understand my own children? 

I was watching Derrick walk away angrily with his siblings, wondering how he was able to even look at me like that? I thought he was the most chill one of them.

” Hey, are you sure he had a heart attack?” Elizabeth asked and I snapped out of my thoughts.

” yeah, although I don’t know how true it is.” 

” I hope he does” Elizabeth said and I stared at her. 

” You have no idea what he’s done to me Viola, you’ll never get it.”  She said while a frown formed on her face.

” I know he wedded you go to someone you hate.” I said and her brows rose in curiosity.

” did…my brother tell you that?” she asked and I shook my head, ” I just figured it out, you’ve never had anything good to say about the Duke.” I said. She nodded and clasped her hand together as she looked at the ceiling.

” I told my father last week that I almost lost my baby because George kept tormenting everyday but do you know what he said to me?” 

I shook my head and she scoffed, ” he said that I’m too weak and I’m so useless and embarrassing to him because I’ve failed to give George an heir.” 

I realized that she really only had daughters, regardless her father should’ve never said something like that to her, its not her fault that she keeps having girls, it’s been scientifically proven that the man is responsible for the gender of the baby so why did they have to blame her for it. 

” Then I became stupid enough to tell him that I was having a boy this time. He didn’t believe anyway, he didn’t even seem sympathetic about how hard I was trying to have a male child.” 

” but it doesn’t matter if it’s a boy or girl”

” Tell that to the monarch of Vercixe.” She said with a scoff and grinded her teeth angrily afterwards.

” I was so desperate for him to care about my condition for once so I told him something I only told Kade and George. This is my fourth child and according to the doctor I shouldn’t be having this baby at all because I this may be my last few months on Earth. I might die Viola.” 

My heart lurched at her last words, her husband was forcing her to have children in her condition? How could a man be so cruel? Couldn’t a woman be a good heir just as a man? 

” My father said at least I would die leaving something that actually matters behind.” 

” He’s a demon.” I said calmly at first then I lost my composure, I had not wanted to insult her father but the man deserved it.

” He’s a fucking beast! How could he say that to his daughter? That’s –”

“- he could say that because I’m a woman. I’m useless to him but he’s grandson won’t be.” 

” He doesn’t deserve to be called a father! He’s the one who is useless and you don’t need him.” 

” He was the reason I almost lost my baby. After what he said I was so hurt and I started having complications but even when he saw me struggling he just told them to get me out of his office. If Kade hadn’t come for me I don’t know what I would’ve done.” 

” I’m so sorry. Now I know why you always shook your head when I spoke of my problems. You’ve been through far worse things than I’ve been.”

” No, I’ve not. We’ve both been through hell Viola. I’ll be lying if I said your case was nothing compared to mine so just leave it at that.”

We sat in silence for a while until I broke the silence.

” What do we do now?” I asked and she shrugged.

” I’m just waiting for him to die, other than that I’m still good anyway. The doctor says the baby is okay so I’ve got nothing to lose.” 

She must’ve seen my confused expression, she sighed and said, ” there’s a higher chance of both me and the baby surviving if I have rest of mind which I have here than anywhere else. Although, I was worried when u saw you and Kade yesterday.” This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

I looked away from her and tucked my hair behind my ear, thinking of what to say.

” Viola, are you in love with my brother?” She asked out of nowhere shocking me. 

” I know that I have feelings for him.” I said after thinking hard.

” and did those feelings arise out of pity for him?” 

” No never! I started to develop feelings for Kade on our prom night. After Klyde made it clear to me that I was  just a toy to him I realized Kade was the one who deserved me. When I went back to him I had mixed feelings – anger and love…I guess.”

She raised a brow at me and I groaned, ” what I’m trying to say was that I was so mad at Klyde and I wanted revenge against him but I also realized how loveable Kade was. I wanted so badly to be able to show Kade the love he deserves but Gina ruined everything.” 

” Well, if you care about Kade please, don’t tempt him again. I’ll just tell you now, Kade still loves you.” 

I felt myself blush when she said he still loves me but it must’ve disappeared when she said, ” but you’re not good for him – at least not yet. He needs to achieve his goals and you know very well that he won’t be able to do so if you two give in to your feelings and have sex.” 

” I know,” I admitted regrettably.

” I know this is hard for you both but that’s like our family motto these days – it’s a hard life for us Harolds get used to it.” She said and then she got up from the chair. 

” If you and Kade can resist each other for a year successfully then It’ll be a big win for him and you too. He would be so happy Viola that I think he may just still want you two  married. From then on, it’ll be sex galore!” she said and I laughed. 

She went to her room shortly while I sat down in the sitting room thinking deeply about what she said. 

Kade came back soon after looking irresistibly handsome but he looked upset so I stopped my drooling and focused on the TV when he turned it on. 

The news headline that followed his action explained exactly why Mr Harold had a heart attack and it was all because of one person.
