Chapter 280 Danger
Freya knew full well that the police had already been meticulous in searching for any breakthrough, but not a hint of suspicious evidence was left at the crime scene…
She took a deep breath and turned to look at the small path she had come from.
The scattered footprints in the woods around the path might be the only thing she could investigate. Even though it was a difficult task, she was determined to try it.
Rather than retracing her steps on the path, Freya entered the nearby grove.
The trees in this grove were dense and blocked out the sun. Even though it was afternoon, it was still dim. inside.
Who knew what it would be like at night?
Freya thought about the many young couples who liked to date in the woods at night. But after what happened to Benjamin, such activities were certainly not going to take place anymore. Nevertheless, it was a line of investigation.
Inside the grove, Freya carefully surveyed the area, walking step by step until she reached the center of the grove. There, she looked around in all directions.
“As expected, nothing,” Freya sighed.
She was about to turn around and leave when she noticed a glint from the corner of her
eye.
After taking a few steps, she suddenly realized what it might be and turned back.
Lodged in the tangle of branches of one tree, a camera used for photography was quietly lying there.
Freya’s eyes lit up. She rolled up her sleeves and immediately climbed the tree..
Her climbing skills were decent, and in no time, she had reached the upper branches. She picked up the camera to examine it..
The camera was completely dark, indicating that it had run out of battery.
Freya looked in the direction the camera faced and found that it was pointing at a secluded spot, hidden. among the dense trees.
Three trees grew closely together, forming a natural semicircle.
Hmm, it’s perfect for couples to have some exciting and unabashed fun.
Freya squinted her eyes.
The camera was dead, and it was difficult to see the road from this central angle. But in case it captured anyone who had visited the woods on the day of the incident, it could be a lead to follow up on. At that, she tucked the camera into her pocket.
She remembered that the library probably had charging outlets. She planned to charge the camera there and see what was inside.
Just as she was about to reach the edge of the grove, her footsteps momentarily paused as she heard the

Her heart tightened, and a chill ran down her spine. Without hesitation, she swiftly moved aside.
An arrow bolt flew past her from behind, embedding itself directly where she had been standing moments.
ago.
Cold sweat broke out on Freya’s back. If it were a while ago, before she had given birth, the arrow would’ve pierced through her right chest.
She turned her head to see a gray figure not far away. Seeing that the first shot missed, the figure immediately turned and fled..
Something’s fishy about him, but he had a crossbow!
Freya gritted her teeth. She couldn’t hesitate further. She had been investigating for so long without finding any leads. The Kaufmann family couldn’t continue being passive and manipulated!
She dashed forward to chase after the figure. Her body was agile, her steps swift. She followed the path out. of the woods and reached the edge of Swan Lake.
The gray figure headed straight for a wall and vaulted over it from the edge of the lake.
When Freya reached the wall, she came to a stop. She didn’t know what lay beyond the wall. Jumping over it recklessly could make her an easy target when she was exposed.
She panted heavily and stared at the wall where the person had left.
She recalled what the police had said before. To reach Swan Lake, apart from the main path, the only ways were through the woods or over the wall, and neither of these routes had surveillance cameras.
As the thought crossed her mind, her eyes lit up. Maybe my line of thinking had been wrong! The perpetrator might have entered by climbing over the wall!
She wasn’t sure if the person who attacked her just now was the killer, but after a scare, people would instinctively choose a place they had previously successfully escaped from. Freya fixed her gaze on the wall the person had climbed over and eventually spotted a very faint footprint in a high position.
A normal person wouldn’t lift their leg so high, even for a split. This was the last push-off after a running start, attempting to jump the wall.
To preserve the evidence, Freya stayed where she was and called Officer Jonathan Copper, who was in charge of Melissa’s case at the police station.
“Officer Copper, this is Freya, Melissa’s cousin. I’m at Evergreen University right now, and I’ve found more clues about Benjamin’s murder!”
On the other end of the phone, Jonathan instructed Freya to stay put, they were on their way to investigate.
After hanging up the phone, Freya looked around. Standing here was undoubtedly risky. There was no cover around, and the person she encountered earlier had a crossbow. If they realized their mistake, they would likely appear again.
Freya pressed her lips together. For Melissa’s sake, she couldn’t back down.

She steeled herself, standing vigilant at the same spot.
After a few minutes, Freya’s phone at her waist rang, and she took it out and found a text from Braxton, asking. ‘Frey, why aren’t you at home? Where did you go?’
Freya pursed her lips and looked around cautiously before responding with a voice message. “Brax, send someone over to Evergreen University’s Swan Lake immediately. I believe I encountered the killer just
now!”
Even if that wasn’t the killer, that person should be related to them!
Instead of replying to her messages, Braxton called. As soon as it connected, he rapped with rage, “What are you doing?! Come back immediately! Do you know how dangerous it is for you to investigate alone?”
“But I’ve already found some evidence.” Freya took a deep breath. “However, I believe my situation isn’t great right now. I’ve contacted the police. Considering the distance, it’ll take a while for them to get here. Send someone over first.”
“Be right there!” Braxton growled through gnashed teeth, seething with anger. “No matter how important the evidence is, your safety is more crucial, understand?”
“Got it. Don’t worry, Brax. I’ve recovered quite a bit recently.”
Regardless, Braxton hurriedly made arrangements on his end.
Outside the wall of Swan Lake was a quiet little street.
Not far from the other side of the street, on the rooftop of a residential building, the man with the crossbow took out his phone.
He answered a call.
On the other end was a mechanical-sounding male voice. “Who told you to go to Evergreen University?!” Even though the voice on the phone was altered, the anger of the person on the other end was evident.
The man in gray clothing, holding the crossbow, trembled.
“Moonblade sent me a message saying Freya went to Evergreen University and instructed us to ambush her there to create chaos in the situation! This would be beneficial for-
Moonblade was a code name. She was the third figure in the organization, responsible for issuing most of the organization’s tasks.
“Shut up!” The male voice on the other end, now raspy due to the voice changer, exclaimed, “Without my permission, you are not allowed to kill her!”
“But I saw Freya take a camera from the grove! She must have found something. Also, I was too careless when I jumped over the wall just now. Freya might realize something!”
