No Longer Lovesick After a Memory Loss

Chapter 271

Chapter 271

Chapter 271 Calculated Retaliation

On the weekend, Freya went directly to the Joint Department in West Geft.

Work there was coming to an end, and many employees had already moved back to the company, making it much quieter here.

Freya first went to find her mentor.

Brandon still reported to work on time lately. Through the glass door, Freya observed her mentor’s leisurely demeanor and hesitated, wondering if he would find life in Caltun boring after the project here was completely finished.

She pushed open the door and entered. Brandon was brewing tea. “Frey, come and taste the Lapsang Souchong my friend just sent.”

The fragrance of the tea filled the air.

“Drinking tea in the winter really is a form of enjoyment, Freya sighed, taking a sip of the hot tea.

She took the pastry box that Brandon handed her and selected a flaky pastry to nibble on.

“Master, do you have any plans after the West Geft project is done?”

“What plans can I have?” Brandon replied casually, “But I’ve gotten used to being here. Coming to work every day without much to do and still getting paid, it’s really hard to leave.”

Freya chuckled at her mentor’s words. “How honest you are, Master.”

The mentor and apprentice chatted while drinking tea.

Freya knew that many elderly people were afraid of being idle, so she discussed with Brandon the idea of opening a tenon-mortise art exhibition in Caltun.

Brandon’s eyes lit up in response. “Is that feasible?”

There are already such exhibitions in the country, but when I looked at the works exhibited in those galleries, they were still far inferior to what you create, Master,” Freya flattered with a smile. “And besides, there is currently no similar exhibition in Caltun. If you agree, I will inquire about the procedures for opening an exhibition.”

Brandon agreed readily.

Coming out of the Joint Department in West Geft, Freya received a call from Matthew.

“You heartless girl, if I didn’t call you, would you never contact me again for the rest of your life?” Matthew’s voice carried a hint of amusement.

Freya chuckled lightly, “I heard from my brother that you went abroad for a project recently. How did it go?”

“Is this your way of caring about me?” Matthew’s voice sounded nonchalant from the other end of the phone.

Freya felt a bit helpless. Matthew was a good friend, the intelligent and inherently kind.

“If thinking so makes you happy, then I have no objections,” Freya replied with a bit of sarcasm.

On the other end, Matthew’s voice held a touch of gossip. “I’ve heard quite a bit about the Monaghan Group’s recent affairs. There’s an internal power struggle among several vice presidents in the Monaghan Group, while Radley Monaghan seems to be completely decadent. Did you break up with him?”

Freya sneered. Why does everyone immediately associate me with his decadence?

“You must’ve been gossiping with your imagination again, she huffed. “I suggest you direct your attention to your family more often.”

“I called to tell you about this.” Matthew’s voice carried a hint of laughter. “My mother wants to invite you to dinner.”

T’d rather not. Have you forgotten the atmosphere when we had dinner last time?”

Freya shuddered at the memory of that day when Matthew’s parents, Tripp and Lorelei, had scolded him. Her scalp tingled at the thought.

“It’s really not a problem this time. Mainly, the Hood Group and the Kaufmann Group have a new collaboration going on, right? Your brother doesn’t have time, so you can represent the Kaufmann Group and come for a meal.”

Freya breathed a sigh of relief. “You mean your family is hosting a banquet.”

“Of course. Did you think it’s a meet-the-future-daughter-in-law kind of thing?” Matthew continued in a teasing tone.

Freya didn’t engage with his words. “Since it’s related to the company, and if my brother is busy, then I don’t mind going. Send me the time and address,”

“Okay, wait a moment.” Matthew, didn’t hang up the call.

A few seconds later, Freya received a message. It was an invitation from the Hood family sent by Matthew Glancing at it, she saw that the event was scheduled for later this day.

Freya said to the phone. “Got it. I’ll be there on time. I won’t keep you any longer.”

“Don’t worry-”

Before Matthew could finish his sentence, Freya had already ended the call. She wasn’t leaving any RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

chances.

After hanging up the phone, Freya went home and changed into a different outfit at home. Matthew’s invitation came too suddenly, and she wasn’t prepared at all.

She stayed at home until evening, then took some time to dress up and headed out when it was time.

The banquet, this time, was held at the Hood Residence, and Freya had been there before, so she navigated her way to the entrance.

The Hood family was hosting this banquet not only for the collaboration with the Kaufmann Group but also for some other reasons.

Watching the continuous stream of guests entering, some familiar and some strangers, Freya stepped out of her car and walked toward the house on her own.

The event wasn’t kept under wraps, and with the presence of a few celebrities, there were a couple of tabloid reporters on the scene.

Just as Freya reached the front gate, a man blocked her path. “Miss Kaufmann, can you answer a few questions for me?”

“I’m sorry, I’m not available at the moment. Freya smiled and attempted to move past, aiming to enter, However, the tabloid reporter seemed oblivious to her refusal and approached even closer as if he hadn’t

heard her.

He held the microphone up to Freya’s lips and asked, “Miss Kaufmann, what’s your perspective on the recent emotional turmoil involving Mr. Radley Monaghan?”

His rudeness upset Freya, and she replied coldly, “I don’t have any opinion. Also, I’m waiting to go inside. Could you please step aside?”

The tabloid reporter had been following Monaghan Group news closely recently, and after some private analysis, he believed that Freya could be a breakthrough, and he believed landing such a significant news story could elevate him to the position of editor-in-chief.

“Miss Kaufmann, after your marriage with Mr. Monaghan ended, did you truly lose your memory, or were you pretending due to exhaustion?”

Freya sneered, “So, even memory loss can be fake in the eyes of you media reporters, huh?”

She furrowed her brows, thinking that the reporter before her was looking for trouble. But since he knew about her memory loss, it seemed that he had put in some effort.

“According to my investigation, Mr. Monaghan divorced you back then because of Danna Delgado. And later, you caused a scene at Madam Rosie’s birthday celebration, accusing Miss Delgado of being a homewrecker. Is that correct?”

Freya squinted her eyes. All that was so long ago! Just what is this guy trying to dig out from me?

She decided to stand her ground.

“What else do you want to ask? Hurry up, ask your questions. After you’re done, I still need to

inside.”

“Recently, you resumed a relationship with Mr. Monaghan. Considering that after Danna Delgado. intruded into your relationship, your career took a downturn, and now she’s nowhere to be found. And Mr. Monaghan is now in this situation. Is all of this a calculated retaliation on your part?”
