Chapter Fourty Nine
Chapter Fourty Nine
Corinna
As I slowly begin to gain back some consciousness, a sharp ringing noise pierces my ears causing me
to cup them with weak hands, trying some how to protect myself against the noise, but I quickly realise
the ringing is due to the effects of the wolfsbane, not a genuine noise from around me.
My senses are dulled and hazy as I take in my surroundings, making everything spin, blur and distort.
My hair feels damp from the sweat that pumps from my body, that is doing it's very best to fight off the
poison in my system.
An uncontrollable cough escapes past my lips, a splatter of deep red, almost black blood lands on the
mattress under me, adding to the endless amounts of stains that already coat the material.
Trying my best to force myself into a sitting position, everything once again begins to spin but I can
barely pay attention to that as my eyes fall on the blood seeping through the grey sweatpants covering
my legs, my heart clenches with pain and anxiety.
This is not happening.
This cannot be happening.
My own loud, heart broken sobs are far away to my ears as I desperately crawl off of the mattress and
toward the staircase. When I reach the bottom of the stairs, my weak arms collapse from under me and
I pant heavily but still continue to try and shake off the exhaustion.
Darting my hand out in front of me, I clench my fingers around the banister as tightly as I can for
support and start to pull myself up the stairs. After what feels like hours, I finally make it to the top.
Pushing myself to sit up, I lean against the door as I reach for the handle to swing the door open, once
I do, I collapse again but this time onto the dark hardwood floor in the hallway of the house.
My breathing by now is uncontrollable and my clothes cling to my body uncomfortably due to the
amount of sweat my body is producing. My eyes start to feel heavy as I lay on the cool wood of the
floor, but I blink roughly trying to force them to stay open.
Another loud sob escapes my lips, as I hear the echo of footsteps coming toward me. I lift my eyes just Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
as the witch who took my gifts stops in front of me, he sends me a mocking grin as he squats down
beside me.
As he opens his mouth to speak, a stick comes flying through the air and impales him right through his
throat. Blood gushes from the wound and his mouth, his eyes are wide and looking behind me where
the front door is.
His hands fly up to touch the stick of wood that is embedded in his neck, in a matter of seconds, the life
drains from his face and eyes and he falls to the floor. Half of his body lands on top of mine and I use
what little strength I have to push him off of me and turn my head in the direction of the front door.
Kai's bright blue eyes land on mine and he rushes into the house, heading straight for me. I exhale
huge breath of relief as I take him in. Just beyond the threshold Dahlia stands with a sick smile on her
face and a stick in her hand, which she drops to the floor when Kai turns and says something back to
her.
When he turns back to me, he places a hand on my cheek softly. " I've got you, my darling. Are you
okay? " His voice sounds very far away but thankfully I manage to make out his words, I just nod in
response to his question.
In a matter of seconds, Kai has scooped me up into his arms and is starting to carry me out of the
house. " Wait. " I call to him, my voice is low and weak.
" What's wrong? " He asks, his voice again sounds a million miles away but I hear him nonetheless.
" The.. The witch he took my gifts, che-check his body for a crystal. " I say, my breathing is uneven and
my words are forced.
Kai relays my request to Sabine who is standing outside the house along with Phoenix, Lila, Darius,
Mateo, an unknown tall, tanned, tattooed, muscular man with bright golden brown eyes, deep stubble
on his sharp jawline and thick red dreadlocks.
Sabine instantly marches off into the house, Phoenix, Darius and the unknown man follow her in. In
under a minute Sabine returns, with the familiar crystal in one hand, while her other hand is tightly
secured around Olive's throat, who is kicking and screaming in an attempt to get away. It also doesn't
take long for the three men to come back with a struggling Josephine.
Kai gently places me down into the back seat of his car, planting a kiss on my head. " I called Jen when
you went missing, she's at the house, I wanted a doctor there for when we found you, just in case. " He
informs me as he straps my seat beat, briefly pausing his movements when he notices the blood on my
pants.
" The doctor was definitely the right call. " I mumble to him.
He flexes his jaw, his eyes never breaking away from the blood between my legs until he is storming off
toward the two sisters, in the blink of an eye he has snapped both of their necks and is telling Phoenix
to bring them back to the house for questioning.
After that is done, he slides into the back seat of the car beside me and we are joined by Dahlia and
Lila moments later. Dahlia turns in her seat to place a hand on my knee, giving it a comforting squeeze.
" It's good to have you back. " She whispers, giving me a brief smile before turning back to start the
engine.
