Mommy 44
Chapter 44
Kamryn couldn’t help teasing Eugene. “You want me to be your wife?”
Eugene looked at Kamryn and nodded. He blushed but looked determined.
“Okay, I’ll wait for you to grow up.”
Eugene raised an eyebrow proudly at Charlie.
Charlie was annoyed and helpless, but there was nothing he could do about his precious son.
“Forget it!
“I’d better let him have his way!
“It’s a joke anyway. I can’t be serious!
“As a father, shouldn’t I humor my son?” Charlie thought.
Halfway through dinner, both Eugene and Kamryn were full. Kamryn always thought she shouldn’t eat too much at dinner, or it would be bad for her stomach and shape.
After dinner, Kamryn took Eugene to wash his face and brush his teeth.
Eugene couldn’t shower every day b
of his poor immune system. Usually, he would wipe himself with a hot towel.
The AC was on in the bathroom. Kamryn first wiped Eugene’s body clean and then urged him to brush his teeth and wash his face.
At that moment, Kamryn suddenly realized that she was like a mother to Eugene. They were like a family of three living together!
“Achoo.”
Eugene suddenly sneezed and rubbed his nose.
Worried that Eugene might catch a cold, Kamryn wiped his body again with a hot towel and held him in the warm air for a while before leaving the bathroom.
At night, Kamryn slept in bed with Eugene, while Charlie slept on the sofa as usual.
From this aspect, Charlie was the very image of a gentleman.
He was self–disciplined, elegant, distinguished, and gentlemanly, and no one seemed to see anything wrong with him.
Sometimes, Kamryn could not help but have a sense of inferiority when standing with Charlie.
It was midnight.
In her sleep, Kamryn was suddenly awakened by the rapid breathing beside her.
She opened her eyes sleepily and looked in the direction of the sound. She was startled to see Eugene’s contorted face in the dim wall light.
Eugene frowned, his face red and his breathing quick. He was drenched with sweat.
Kamryn reached out for Eugene’s face. The moment her fingertips touched his forehead, she was stunned by the heat of his body!
“He’s so hot!
“He seems to have a fever!
“How could something like this happen?” Kamryn wondered.
Kamryn hugged Eugene nervously, only to find that he was sweating so much that his pajamas were stuck to him.
“Eugene…”
Kamryn patted Eugene’s face gently and called out to him tenderly.
Eugene struggled to open his eyes and said, “Cold.”
Eugene’s childish and hoarse voice aroused Kamryn’s sympathy for him!

Chapter 44
For some reason, Kamryn felt as if her heart was bleeding.
‘Cold‘
“Impossible!
“He’s so hot. He doesn’t have a fever, does he?” Kamryn wondered.
In a panic, Kamryn tried to wake Charlie up. She carried Eugene out of bed and walked to the living room. Charlie was lying on his side on the sofa under a thin comforter, looking tired. His laptop was closed and on the coffee table. Kamryn could tell he hadn’t slept much.
Although Kamryn couldn’t bear to wake Charlie up, she walked over to him with Eugene in her arms and called out to him because she was so worried. “Charlie… Charlie?”
Charlie woke up at once and frowned.
Kamryn hurriedly said, “Eugene’s hot. He looks like he has a fever. What are we gonna do? He looks very ill…”
Charlie was snapped back to consciousness. He leaned forward to check Eugene’s condition and then touched his forehead. Eugene was so hot that Charlie knew at once that he had another fever.
Charlie had taken good care of Eugene since he was born. Although Eugene had a total of five fevers, each one nearly killed him!
“Go to the hospital now!”
Charlie got up right away and changed into his shirt. Then he wrapped his coat around Eugene and took him from Kamryn.
Kamryn had no time to change her clothes. She put on her coat and followed Charlie.
Charlie sped all the way to the hospital. On the way there, he contacted Eugene’s attending doctor. When they arrived at the hospital, the doctors and nurses immediately took Eugene to a sterile ward.
Kamryn stood next to Charlie and watched through the huge glass window as the doctors and nurses gathered around Eugene. Sometimes they pulled out syringes to draw blood, and sometimes they went in and out nervously. Kamryn was too frightened to speak.
“Is… is Eugene all right?”
Kamryn vaguely remembered Charlie saying that a mild cold could kill Eugene at any time, let alone a fever!
Charlie appeared calm, but he was rattled deep down.
He fixed his eyes on the thin little boy in the hospital bed and unconsciously held Kamryn’s hand tightly. He kissed her so hard that her fingertips almost turned white.
“He’ll be fine!”
Charlie didn’t look at Kamryn, but he said encouragingly, his eyes full of determination, “He said he would marry you when he grew up!” Kamryn nodded heavily.
The doctors went in and out from time to time, but Kamryn hadn’t seen Charlie ask the doctor about Eugene for the past half hour. “Aren’t you going to ask the doctor how Eugene is?” Kamryn asked worriedly.
Charlie remained silent.
It was not that he forgot it, but that he couldn’t bring himself to do that.
Kamryn didn’t know how scared Charlie was.
If Charlie asked, the doctor would tell him that Eugene was in an emergency rescue and not out of danger.
Charlie was afraid to ask because he could lose Eugene at any moment.
Time ticked by.
An hour…
Two hours…
Four hours…
It was already dawn in the blink of an eye.

Finally, the attending doctor came out of the emergency room and took off his mask. It seemed to Kamryn that the rescue had taken a century!
Kamryn rushed up to the doctor, grabbed his arm, and asked worriedly, “How’s the rescue going? Is Eugene all right?”
“Phew, he’s fine. He nearly caught pneumonia. If that were the case, he would be in a really bad condition. I’m glad you got him here in time.”
The doctor’s face grew complicated.
Charlie realized something and said calmly, “Speak your mind.”
“Although Eugene has been given immune globulin every month, it has no small side effects. Over time, it can cause liver and kidney failure.”

Western medicines had varying degrees of toxicity, and toxins were supposed to be metabolized by the liver. Eugene was too young. If those toxins were to build up in his body, they could cause irreversible damage to his health
over time.
