Love’s Final Reveal

Chapter 54

‘Mrs. Sinclair?”

Lola’s eyes briefly lit up, but she quickly concealed her reaction.

“Shall we go home? I don’t want to stay here any longer,” Lola said, casting her eyes down as if afraid.

Ethan nodded. “Sure, anything you want is fine.”

Both men were acutely aware that the woman in front of them was not the real Lola, yet they had to treat her as if she were.

It felt really uncomfortable.

“Dom, I feel a bit sick. I want to sleep a while.”

Shortly after getting in the car, Lola started to act up again.

She tried to lean towards Dominick, but he subtly avoided her, pulling out a pillow from behind..

“Get some rest if you’re tired.”

It seemed caring, yet it also created a subtle distance between them.

Lola paused, taken aback, then straightened up.

“Sure.

The air grew tense, yet no one said anything more.

Upon returning to Talondria, they headed to Ethan’s current place.

“Ms. Lewis is back? I have to see her! We’ve been so worried since you left. Dominick and Ethan had been searching for you non-

stop.

“You are finally back!”

Heather’s eyes were red and her voice choked with emotion as she held Lola’s hand.

However, Lola screamed, “Oh my gosh! What happened to your face? Get off me. If you’re a servant, then act like one. No need to fuss over me.”

Lola was shocked at Heather’s face, unable to hide her disgust as she withdrew her hand.

Heather was stunned, freezing in an awkward expression. It was obvious that Lola was frightened by her current appearance.

In truth, Heather understood Lola’s fear of her unmasked face, but she hadn’t expected such a blunt reaction.

The Layla she remembered wouldn’t be so inconsiderate of others‘ feelings, so undignified.

Dominick’s face turned cold as he looked at Lola with a hint of displeasure.

Just then, Ethan nudged Dominick’s back, as if hinting at something.

“Layla, how can you say that? She’s more than just a housekeeper to us. She’s Dominick’s birth mother. Did you forget?”

Ethan’s tone was probing, testing the waters.

Dominick caught on to the underlying intent in Ethan’s words. Eager to find out Lola’s current whereabouts, he suppressed his dissatisfaction with the fake Lola.

If it weren’t for the utility of the woman before him, he would have killed her for treating his mother like that!

Lola’s expression stiffened, and then she raised her hand to rub her temples, speaking with frustration. “I’m really sorry, ma’am. My memory’s just not what it used to be. I’ve forgotten so much, I’m truly sorry!”

‘This lady had clearly called me “Ms. Lewis“, a title typically used by servants, so I had responded in kind.”

“But I had not expected her to be Dominick’s mother!”

Lola wondered if her explanation would be okay.

After all, Lola was emotionally shattered by that video. It made sense she was a bit fuzzy about her memories, maybe even mistaking the identities of people.

“It’s alright, Ms. Lewis. It’s good to have you back. Uh, I’ll just pop into the kitchen, see if they need a hand. You guys carry on.”

After being missing for a month, Heather was filled with excitement at the sight of Lola, only to sink under the weight of Lola’s dismissive words.

Heather walked away with a dejected look, leaving Dominick with a shadow cast over his face.

“Dom, are you mad at me? I didn’t mean what I said before, really. I’m sorry. Can’t you let it slide, given my condition?”

Lola noticed Dominick’s displeasure. She hurriedly explained and apologized, playing the patient card.

“It’s fine, go back to your room and rest. I’ll go explain to her. She won’t blame you,” Dominick said with a strained, comforting

tone.

That was the best he could manage.

After dinner, Heather didn’t show up.

-Usually, they all dined together, but Heather didn’t come downstairs today.

The atmosphere at the dinner table was tense, Dominick looking particularly upset, hardly speaking a word.

Lola was pondering how to calm Dominick down and let him forget about the incident earlier.

“Layla, you’ve just come back. You should really get some rest,” Ethan suggested kindly, setting a glass of milk in front of her. “Drink

this, then head off to bed.”

Lola’s nose wrinkled slightly, showing her reluctance.

“Ethan, I really don’t want milk. Can I pass on it tonight?” Actually, the real Lola didn’t like milk.

“But you love drinking milk, right? You always have a cup before bed. Have you forgotten what you like? You’re such a goofball.”

Lola was a bit confused at Ethan’s words.

She frowned, “I’ve never liked milk, not then and certainly not now. How could I possibly drink it everyday?”

Ethan seemed to confirm something, a smile tugging at his lips, but he quickly masked it.

“Layla, it looks like your memory’s a bit foggy. You didn’t like milk as a child, but while we’ve been away, I prepared milk for you every day to help you sleep better.

“And now, you’ve gotten used to it. You can’t fall asleep without it. Have you forgotten that too?”

Having said that, Ethan stared at Lola’s face, observing every flicker of emotion in her eyes.

“Is that so? Alright then, I’ll drink. My memory’s so poor these days, so I’ve forgotten many things. Maybe you guys could help me catch up sometime.”

Lola started to look pitiful again.

“Alright, alright, we don’t mind. You know we love you, Layla, right?”

Ethan pushed the milk towards her again. “Drink up, then get some rest.”

Lola drank the milk under Ethan’s watchful eye.

An hour later, Dominick showed up in Ethan’s study. “She’s asleep?” he asked.

“Yeah, she’s asleep now. Call Heather over.”

Ethan was typing something on his computer, his expression serious.

“It’s the first day, and I think we better be cautious, make sure she doesn’t notice anything.” Dominick sat down on the sofa, speaking in a cold voice. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.

Ethan scoffed confidently, “Don’t worry, I slipped a sleeping pill into her milk. She’s not waking up anytime soon. We’ve got a lot to discuss and need to find an opportunity to do so.”

Dominick paused. ‘A sleeping pill?”

‘No wonder,” he thought. He had found it strange before. He knew Lola hated milk, and Ethan should know that too.

It turned out it had all been a test.

“I am now certain, she’s not Layla, She’s Jennal”

The three of them were in Ethan’s study, each wearing a solemn expression.

“No wonder… I knew Ms. Lewis would never been so unpolite. She would never look down on me. I just never thought she’s an imposter.” Heather was eager to expose her.
