Chapter 577 Cinderella With No Happy Ending
Chapter 577 Cinderella With No Happy Ending
Chanel had not come to see Damien for such an innocent purpose. She knew Clarissa and Damien
had a misunderstanding, and was there to deepen it. A fake marriage certificate might one day turn into
a real divorce agreement. That would be absolutely great!
“Then, should I come next time too?” Chanel asked Damien.
“Next time? I’ll call you if I need you,” Damien answered.
“Sure. I’ll be here whenever you need me.” Chanel was just like a loyal dog, ecstatic to perform any
task for Damien. She thought this current situation was fine as long as she could kick Clarissa to the
curb once it was all over. Then, she would have won.
Her obedient facade was just a preparatory phase.
…
At the entrance of the New East Corporation, Janet tailed Clarissa. “Clare, where are you going? We
have a date, remember?”
Clarissa had forgotten about that.
“Silly me! I forgot.” Clarissa’s smile was genuin eas she replied to Janet.
“Let’s go. I’ve already reserved a table for us.” Janet threw a hand around Clarissa’s shoulder and took
her to her car.
Janet had booked a place at a quaint Meranian restaurant. They sat with their backs to the wall, giving
Clarissa a sense of security and making her feel like everything was peaceful and fine.
Clarissa told herself Genovia was great, and that it was filled with people that she knew. Even though
Grandpa’s house was located in Florin and Grandpa’s university was there, Florin wasn’t her home.
“Clare, I got your resume from Director Jones. I know you’ve graduated from the University of Emmeria
in Lotharia. Not bad! We didn’t hear anything about you after you left for three years,” Janet said as she
ate. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
When it came to this achievement, Clarissa would always wave it off humbly.
The two started chatting about the company’s internal affairs.
Janet rarely spoke with Clarissa about private matters. Perhaps it was because she felt that doing so
would make Clarissa feel awkward. Besides, most of Clarissa’s private matters involved Damien. It was
a taboo to gossip about one’s superior, so Janet didn’t mention it. Thus, Clarissa felt more at ease with
Janet.
“Oh, by the way, Clarissa. You should know Rebecca Steward, right?” Janet asked.
Clarissa paused in her eating. “Rebecca? What about her?”
“What kind of a person is she?”
Clarissa thought about it for a while before answering reservedly, “She’s quite direct.”
“You mean she’s too direct, don’t you?” Janet scrunched up her nose. “She’s like Cinderella with no
happy ending and won’t shut up about it. The last time we went for a meeting together, there were lots
of other people we know, so we went for lunch together. I sat there and kept hearing her bitch about
Howard Brooks. She just wouldn’t let it go! But I really can’t blame her, either. Howard used to be our
finance director, and he was a really annoying one. It’s no wonder things turned out that way.”
“Yes, Howard’s quite a character.” Clarissa couldn’t help but recall how Howard had been with Nicole
Brown. He had even tried to dump all the blame on Clarissa.
“Also,” Janet said, leaning closer to Clarissa. “Lately there’s been someone posting conspiracies about
our company. I suspect it’s Howard. After all, it was Mr. Lawrence who landed him in jail.”
“Was it all negative accusations?”
“It was all stuff about how our company does a lot of overtime and works people to death for money.
Besides…” Janet paused. “It’s on our company’s Whirlwind forum. You can go on it and have a look.
Anyway, let’s stop talking about negative stuff. I wanna talk about happy things.”
The two then moved on to another topic.
After separating, Clarissa went back to her home on the University of Genovia campus.
Coincidentally, she bumped into Howard at the entrance to the university. He seemed to be waiting for
someone.
