Chapter 107

An eye opener

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked Quinn as we sat on the patio. It was a good place to catch up.

“You know what I mean, come on. You look like a vampire” I laughed so hard

“Do you even get enough sleep? Your eyes are swollen man. Whatever it is, you shouldn’t stress yourself too much. It ain’t worth it.” My laughter turned into sadness. Quinn noticed.

“What’s wrong Cayden? Talk to me”

I poured out my heart to him, telling him how I felt for Lily, how I was in love with her but she wasn’t seeing it, how her baby daddy came back to her and she accepted him back like I didn’t exist, how I’m suspecting that her baby daddy is up to something that will end up hurting Lily and how I confronted her about it but she thinks I’m just jealous her now that she looks like she’s getting a form of happiness from someone that’s not me.

“It’s heartbreaking. I never thought any woman would make me feel this way”

“I never thought so too” I glared at Quinn

“What are you driving at”

He laughed “I’m shocked too. All I’ve been hearing in the street is how you’ve been busy, playing the classic playboy. Hearing this is uplifting I must say, who would have thought?”

I laughed. I somehow caught the shadow of someone that looked like Jake, the person seemed to have been listening in on the conversation but I just shrugged it off. Couldn’t be him anyway.

“Ahem” Someone standing beside us coughed

“Would you like to order anything, gentlemen?” That was Lily’s voice, I’d recognize it any day. I raised my head and looked at her face. Oh, how I missed looking into those eyes… Wait a minute, had she been listening in on the conversation? Oh no! I felt so embarrassed, I didn’t know how to act, I froze.

“I’m gonna have a milkshake” Quinn turned to me but I was still lost for words

“I guess my friend here would have the same, thanks”

She walked away like she didn’t know me

“I’m guessing that’s her”

Quinn brought me back to reality.

“Yea”

“Yea, even a blind man would have noticed.”

“Stop it” We laughed

“You should go tell her how you feel really, tell her the truth”

“What? No, I can’t do that”

“Yes should, before it’s too late. Do you want to be with her or not?”

“I do”

“Then go”

“Thanks, man”

“You got it”

I got up and went after Lily. She was supervising her workers as they dished out orders.

“Hey Lily, please can we talk?”

She hesitated

“I won’t take much of your time, just give me some minutes”

“Fine”

I took her outside and started the conversation

“Lily come with me, I need you now” Jake interrupted. I knew he had been lurking somewhere. Ass hole!

“Do I have to go with you? I’m in the middle of something?” She didn’t look like she wanted to go with him but I couldn’t do anything except she wanted me to

“Just do it, Lily!” He almost raised his voice at her.

Is this guy crazy? Why was Lily allowing him to talk to her in such a manner?

She walked to the car reluctantly and sat inside.

“Hey mister whatever you call yourself, I’m gonna need you to stay away from Lily. I don’t ever want to see you close to her again, you hear me? Stop getting involved in her affairs. I’m here to stay and I’m not going anywhere. It’s high time you got comfortable with that fact!” He faced me, head to head.

“Are you threatening me? Do you know who you’re talking to?”

He didn’t answer me. He just walked to his car and started driving. Lily looked at me from the rear mirror, she looked scared. Our eyes were locked until the car was out of sight. I had to find out what Jake was up to, this isn’t a good sign.

I went back to meet Quinn where he sat, drinking his milkshake

“Did you see the drama that just played?” I asked him

“I wasn’t paying attention but I saw a guy speaking to you. Who was he?”

“He’s Lily’s baby daddy”

“And what the fuck did he want from you?”

“He says I should stay away from Lily. He threatened me, can you imagine that?”

“That’s not good, do you want me to do something about that?”

“Nah, I don’t know what to do yet but I’ll figure it out. He seems dangerous and looks like he’s going to put Lily in harm’s way. I can’t sit back and let him do that.”

“I second that. You should come up with a solution fast before the situation worsens”

“I will”

Lily didn’t look as okay as she did the last time I saw her. I hope Jake hasn’t been stressing her out or being demanding. She looked like she was stuck and couldn’t come out of it. Or had she been hitting her? No, Lily won’t tolerate misbehaviour that far. I just needed to figure out what was going on fast. I think she’s in danger and she doesn’t even know it yet. Oh, Lily! I’ve got to get her out of this mess, I have to save her.

I and Quinn got up and started heading for home

“It was nice to see you man, I hope we get to catch up sometime soon and please, I want to hear good news”

“Sure!”

“Alright man”

We exchanged hands and went out our separate ways.

I got home and started thinking of all the ways to save Lily. There had to be a way out. I thought about texting her, hoping Jake won’t go through her phone and put her in more trouble. Omg, can it be that bad? Maybe I should just open my mind to the possibilities. Saving her was my priority from now on.
