Chapter 279
Chapter 279
The old man sneered, “Ordained by the heavens? No one's truly ordained by the heavens. Luck will change. Once you have suffered too many setbacks, the Heavenly Law will go along with the flow. If I had snatched your luck, then it would become my luck. In response, the Heavenly Law will begin backing me up and stop helping you.”
Jonathan froze, for he understood what the old man said was the truth.
Their turbulent world could be viewed as a television show.
The Chosen Ones were the protagonists, while the others were merely side characters.
In that sense, the Heavenly Law was the director.
What was different about that television show compared to others was that it didn't abide by the principles of karma or any morality system.
The protagonist that the Heavenly Law desired didn't necessarily have to be an agent of justice.
They just had to be suitable.
“What kind of organization is Eonetara?” Jonathan inquired.
With a cold grin, the old man replied, “You've asked that question multiple times in the Void Domain before. We didn't tell you then, and we certainly won't tell you now. Accidents may occur before you die, so we absolutely won't spill our secrets to you.”
It wasn't difficult for Jonathan to figure out his enemies were meticulous.
“We've investigated you before. You have a close relationship with Mabel of the sixth division. Additionally, your luck has been pretty good. Every time Gabriel tried to kill you, you always managed to escape. Although, I am curious about something. Since we're going to take your destiny, luck, and maybe even your life this time, I wonder what other miracle can you perform to get yourself out of this situation?” Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
Still staring at the old man, Jonathan spat, “I've broken your Void Domain. What other techniques do you have to absorb my destiny and luck?”
“We still have Trifecta Formation. Once we utilize this formation, we'll be able to absorb them by force.”
“If you could've forcefully sucked my luck and destiny away, why did you use Void Domain before?”
“You're a very curious fellow. Why ask so many questions when you're going to die either way?”
A bitter smile formed on Jonathan's face. “I'm not afraid of death, but I am afraid of dying without knowing anything.”
“While I can't reveal many things to you, I can still tell you this. Trifecta Formation is too overbearing. The amount of luck it can suck out forcefully is a lot less compared to the Void Domain. Thus, I don't want to use it unless I have no other options.”
Jonathan blinked and murmured, “Not only do you lot want my luck and destiny, but you also want Otto to swindle a massive amount of money. It seems like your organization is expecting a grand battle during the Great Tribulation.”
After gazing at Jonathan profoundly, a look of suspicion flashed past the old man's eyes. “You're about to die, yet you persist in your effort to uncover our secrets. Why? Could it be that you have a way to get out of here?”
The same bitter grin returned to Jonathan's face. “You really are cautious. Right now, I'm no different from a fish on the chopping board. I simply want to know more about the circumstances regarding my death before I bite the dust. One day, when you're in my shoes, you'll know how I feel.”
Even the old man couldn't help but agree with his sentiment. I'm probably just being paranoid.
Jonathan asked, “Can I know who was the one playing the role of Orcus inside the Void Domain?”
“She's our saintess, and she's not here right now. You'll never be able to see her.”
“Saintess?” Jonathan found it odd. “Is Eonetara really an organization or actual hell?”
Coldly, the old man rejected, “I can't tell you that.”
“If you're afraid to tell me, this means your organization's not strong enough, am I right? That's why you lot are hiding in the shadows, deathly afraid of exposing yourselves.”
The old man remained unwavering. “Think what you will.” He paused before continuing, “Stop talking nonsense and prepare to accept your fate.”
With that, he turned to the young men behind him. “Prepare the Trifecta Formation!”
“Understood!” the young men responded politely.
Soon, they formed a triangle and surrounded Jonathan in the middle.
Upon sweeping his gaze past the three of them, Jonathan exclaimed, “Wait!”
The old man stared at him and warned, “This is your last chance to speak. Any last words?”
An eerie grin formed on Jonathan's face. “That's what I want to say to you, too.”
A puzzled expression settled on the old man's and his follower's faces.
The former asked, “What do you mean?”
In response, Jonathan sneered, “It's a shame that you don't know enough about me. I was going to bait you to tell me more, but it seems like that's not going to happen. In that case, it's time for you all to die!”
Without delay, he started chanting a spell.
The members of Eonetara stared at him, shocked. What the heck is he doing? What's going on? Does he think he can scare us with a spell? This isn't a world of magic!
They almost thought Jonathan was going crazy.
However, they soon realized something was off.
A brilliant light suddenly burst out of Jonathan's chest, which was followed by the appearance of a figure in the air.
That figure was the Emperor of Chanaea, Lance.
Lance was wearing a snow-white robe and exuding an ethereal aura.
He glanced solemnly at Jonathan and the members of Eonetara.
The old man paled when he saw who the figure was. “It's him!”
Perplexed, the young men asked, “Do you know him?”
“He used to—” The old man abruptly shut his mouth, afraid that he would accidentally reveal some hidden secret.
Meanwhile, Lance started chanting, “God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. Then God said, 'Let there be sky and earth,' and there was sky and earth. God said, 'Everything in this world is created by me. I can provide just as well as I can take away.' Then God said, 'Light is good. Let it be split from the darkness,' and there was day and night. God said, 'Let there be stars in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years,' and there was time.”
Without stopping, he continued, “Then God said, 'This world is too simple. Let it have life. Should they betray me, they shall return to me. Be not afraid. Be not suspicious. Be not lost. Everything has been foreordained as I see everything. Murder is one of twelve sins, for life is free. Whatever shall plunge life into the darkness of death is deemed an untenable sin. Fear not, for I shall cleanse it, as no darkness exists in eternal under the light.' God said, Worship me, and you shall obtain light. Betray me, and you
shall bathe in the flame of my divine fury. I permit the existence of darkness, but it shall never rule over the light, for I will purge it if it does.”
When the chanting was over, Lance glanced at the members of Eonetara and uttered slowly, “Let the darkness be cleansed!”
A golden light promptly appeared and gradually wrapped the trio from head to toe.
The part of their bodies that was wrapped in the golden light would eventually turn golden. It was then the old man's expression became exceptionally grim, for he couldn't dodge or avoid the attack.
Soon after, their bodies were completely shrouded in golden light before they melted into a puddle of golden liquid.
Jonathan was stunned when he saw that because he didn't expect Lance's technique to be that powerful. The three of them didn't even have the chance to fight back!
Seconds later, Lance progressively faded away until he vanished completely.
The golden badge in front of Jonathan's chest soon lost its luster.
It pained him to see that. Godd*mmit! I can't believe I accidentally stumbled into a dangerous situation and wasted the protective badge Mr. Cadman gifted me!
Holding the golden badge in his hand, he felt no spirit emanating from the item any longer. It had become an ordinary object.
When he swept his gaze past Briana and the others, he saw they were still in a coma.
Tired and hungry, Jonathan was barely able to exert any strength.
He was aware he couldn't stay in the room for long. After all, it was likely Eonetara had other members. Or perhaps the saintess the old man spoke of might come to visit. If anyone attacked him in his current condition, he would be dead.
With great effort, Jonathan got off the bed and arrived at the door.
Thankfully, he didn't have too much trouble walking normally.
Upon opening the door, he stepped out and noticed he was in a warehouse.
The surrounding sight was foreign to him, and his phone was gone. Thus, he couldn't contact Mabel at all.
Hastily, Jonathan left the warehouse.
Outside the entrance, a wooded path connected the warehouse to a busy city.
When he saw the familiar sight of a city, he felt grateful to be alive.
Without delay, Jonathan trudged into the city and hailed a taxi.
After he entered the vehicle, the driver asked, “Where to?”
Jonathan was stunned. Oh yeah, where should I go? I have no idea how many experts from Eonetara are in the city, not to mention I'm weak right now. This situation is dire!
After a brief moment of contemplation, he requested, “Can you lend me your phone so I can make a call?”
The driver gave him a weird stare. “Don't you have one?”
“I was robbed. There's nothing on me right now, not even a phone.”
That only made the driver even more upset. “What the heck? Why did you hail a taxi when you have nothing on you? Get out of my car right now. Don't bother me while I'm trying to make a living.”
Jonathan couldn't blame the driver for being angry. After all, it wasn't easy for anyone to make a living.
Hence, he proposed, “How about this? Let me make a call with your phone, and I'll ask my friend to transfer you one hundred thousand. Once it's done, you just need to give me twenty thousand. The rest is yours to keep. What do you think?”
