Chapter 137
The next morning dawned bright and clear, with the rain finally stopping. The Welton family was still deep in mourning over Jeffery's passing, and the tension Tristan brought wasn't helping. Caroline came downstairs and saw Eliza heading out the door. "Off to work? Great, I'll join you."
"Are you going to Welton International today?"
"Just dropping by."
Just then, Casper made his way down the stairs. With a laid-back grace, he buttoned his cuffs, exuding an air of casual elegance. He didn't bother greeting anyone as he walked straight out. Caroline, unsure why he was moody, grabbed her bag. "Let's get going."
"Alright."
Their cars left the Welton estate one after the other. At a crossroads, Casper's car took a turn.
"Where's he off to?" Caroline asked Eliza, puzzled.
Eliza knew this route well; another intersection and a left turn would lead to the home she shared with Casper. A bitter feeling welled up inside her. "He might be picking up Nova for work."
Caroline immediately got it, scoffing, "Someone who never even went to college is working at Welton International? And the CEO is personally picking her up? That's a joke."
Eliza didn't know how others laughed about this, but she knew many in the design department saw Nova as the future CEO's wife and tried to curry favor. With her gaze lowered, she remained silent. Caroline glanced at her while steering with one hand. "Casper and Nova are like this, and you just let them be?"
"I can't control him, nor do I have the right to." Eliza clumsily explained their relationship, eliciting a sympathetic sigh from Caroline.
"If you can't make it work, why not divorce him? Is it the allure of being Mrs. Welton you can't give up or something else?"
Eliza's gaze fell on the bandage on her clean fingers, remaining silent for a long time. She coveted nothing. Divorcing Casper wasn't her call to make.
Without the answer she sought, Caroline pressed no further. When they arrived at Welton International's parking lot, Casper's car was already parked across from them.
As the car door opened, Casper
helped Nova Out tenderly, handing her the crutches and supporting her arm. The care and affection he gave Nova was so evident that it pained Eliza to see. Blinking back the sting te in her eyes, Eliza forced a smile at
Caroline. "I'll take the staff elevator up."
"Okay, sure."
Eliza hurried a few steps, her gaze lowered, circling around the cars towards the staff entrance. Nova glanced at Eliza's retreating figure, then said to Casper, "Casper, take me to the staff elevator. I'll go up with Eliza."
"Sure."
Just as the elevator doors were about to close, Casper pressed the button to hold them open. Nova entered, leaning on her crutches. As the elevator ascended, the confined space mirrored on all sides. Nova let out a soft laugh.C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.
"I never thought Casper would bring you back from the brink. Seems I wasn't ruthless enough." Her words were loaded.
"What do you mean? Was the arson your doing?" Eliza felt a chill run down her spine.
Nova turned to her, a malicious
smile playing on her lips. "No harm
in telling you now. Yes, it was me. cost me a hundred thousand, and all it did was lock you up for a few days. Thinking about it, it really wasn't
worth it."
A cold dread spread through Eliza. She clenched her fists. "That was the only house your parents left. How could you just burn it?"
"Eliza, did you forget? Their will wasn't amended in my favor before they died," Nova's face twisted with venom. "I had no attachment to that place. I burned it, and it's gone now. It wasn't meant for me anyway."
