This strategy seemed to be quite effective. After the doorbell rang a few times, it fell silent and didn’t ring- again.
Lysander lifted the blanket, attentively listening to the movements outside the door, trying to confirm if he had truly left..
“Yes, this is the room. I’ve been ringing the doorbell for quite some time with no response. Could please open the door for me?”
Immediately after, the sound of a room card being swiped could be heard from outside.
Lysander immediately sat up.
“What are you doing!”
you
“Hello, miss, I’m the hotel manager. How are you faring right now? Your boyfriend mentioned that your were ill and there was no response even though he kept ringing the doorbell. He was worried you might have fainted and couldn’t open the door, so he asked us to come and check on you.”
Lysander felt as though a fire was consuming her from within. “I didn’t faint. I’m fine. All I want now is to rest, is that okay?”
The manager repeatedly apologized, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb your rest.”
“You should go. Tell him to go as well.”
“Yes, yes, my apologies, miss!”
The manager had barely turned around when he heard Josiah say, “She’s running a fever and being difficult with me. If anything were to happen to her in your hotel, no one could bear that responsibility.”
The manager was in a bind. “But we can’t just enter without the guest’s permission.
After a moment of contemplation, Josiah decided not to ring the doorbell this time. Instead, he knocked on the door with his hand. “Lysander, open the door. I have something to discuss with you.”
“Let’s talk about it tomorrow!”
“It’s about work. There’s been a change in the plans for the summit, so open the door. I need to explain things to you.”
There was no response from Lysander.
“Lysander?”
Lysander closed her eyes for a moment.
It seems he’s determined not to stop until he achieves his goal today.
“Wait a moment.

is it that you have-?”
Her complaint was abruptly cut short by Josiah’s next action.
Casually. Josiah tossed his phone inside the door, letting it land on the carpet with a soft thud. Then, without any warning, he embraced Lysander, pushing her back inside with him.
With a backward shove, he shut the door tightly.
Lysander was still a bit dazed when she was spun around in a circle and, with a force that was neither too light nor too heavy, pressed up against the wall.
Thump!
She wouldn’t exactly describe it as pain, but she had a cold and her head was already feeling foggy. Now, it
was even more so.
“Why are you opening the door without dressing properly again? There’s still an unfamiliar man outside.”
Lysander furrowed her brows before smacking her own head.
In the next moment, Josiah’s hand covered hers, gently massaging the spot she had just smacked. “Why are you hitting your own head so hard?”
“I’m not feeling well,” she said tiredly. “Josiah, that’s twice already tonight! Can’t I just get a good night’s sleep?
From outside the door, the manager’s voice came through, cautious and tentative, “Mr. Guerra, is your girlfriend all right? Do you need any help?”
Josiah bowed his head, gazing at Lysander, who was nestled in his arms. His tone was gentle as he said, “If it’s too unbearable, we should go to the hospital.”
Lysander kept her head low, so when she spoke, her voice was muffled against his chest. “I’m not going.”
Josiah reached out, brushing away the stray locks of hair on her forehead, and checked her temperature. “You don’t seem to have a fever anymore. Do you feel unwell anywhere else?”
“I have a headache.”
Josiah asked, “Are you sure you don’t need to go to the hospital?”
In truth, Lysander had a fair idea in her own heart.
Her cold this time was sudden and serious, not quite resembling a common cold but more akin to the flu.
She really had a knack for jinxing things. Her casual remark at the airport had actually come true.
“No. I’ll be fine after drinking more water. There are many patients in the hospital, and their immunity is already low. I don’t want to risk/spreading anything to them.”
Josiah frowned. “Is it really the flu?”

“We traveled here by plane. If I were going to catch anything, it would have happened already. It’s too late to avoid it now.”
Josiah raised his voice toward the outside, saying, “Mr. Hans, my girlfriend doesn’t need any more help for now. Sorry for troubling you so late at night.”
“All right, I’ll be taking my leave now. If you need anything, feel free to call the front desk at any time.”
“Okay.”
Lysander lifted her head, shooting him a glare. “The poor manager! Roused from his sleep in the middle of the night by you. Mr. Guerra, could you perhaps refrain from making things difficult for the employees in the future?”
Josiah merely hummed in agreement. He slightly furrowed his brows at her hoarse voice and, in a rare show of concern, refrained from bickering with her. “Does your throat hurt?”
“Somewhat.”
“What about your body?”
“A little bit too.”
“Take a seat while I go heat up some water.”
Josiah helped her sit against the headboard of the bed, then went over to the storage cabinet by the door to fetch the mineral water provided by the hotel.
Just as he reached the doorway, he could hear the sounds of muffled laughter and chatter coming from
outside.
“I heard it! She said, “That’s twice already tonight!
“So his girlfriend didn’t open the door for him because she was afraid he’d ask for more?”
“Probably. Just a moment ago, I heard something about a sore throat.”
“Wow, that wild?”
“No, what I’m trying to say is… It managed to reach all the way into her throat?”
“Hey, hey! Get your mind out of the gutter, you!
“I’m just curious.”
“If you’re so curious, why don’t you go ask them yourself tomorrow?”
“I wouldn’t dare…”

After listening for a while, Josiah felt something was off and abruptly swung the door open.
Outside, there stood two young men.

As soon as he opened the door, the two young men were thrown into a panic. Shoving each other in their haste, they quickly retreated into the adjacent room and slammed the door shut with a loud bang-
He probably caused a commotion when he was calling out at the door earlier, which must have drawn out the two from next door to check on the situation. There was no telling how long they had been eavesdropping.
Josiah closed the door and returned to the bedside carrying two bottles of mineral water. Unscrewing the caps, he poured all the contents into a kettle. He then plugged it in to heat the water.
Lysander was still sitting at the head of the bed, wrapped up tightly in the thick blanket, leaving only her head exposed. Her face was flushed with warmth while her forehead was glistening with tiny beads of
sweat.
Josiah gently sat down by the bed, wiping away the sweat on her face with his hand. Then, he reached out to pull the blanket from her.
“Why are you bundled up so tightly? What if you get a fever before you even recover from your flu?”
Lysander clutched the corner of the blanket tightly, a wary look on her face. “How much longer are you planning to stay in my room?”
Josiah’s hand paused before he reassured her, “I’ll leave as soon as the water is boiled.”
“Really?”
“Yes.
Lysander slightly relaxed, lazily leaning to one side. “Why did you open the door just now? Is Mr. Hans still outside?”
“No,” said Josiah. “You should let go now. If you keep holding on, you’re really going to start sweating.” Nonetheless, Lysander refused to release her grip. “I’ve never had such a severe cold before. It feels like a combination of a cold and the flu. The flu virus can only be treated with medication, while a cold can be sweated out.”
“Are you sure?”
“Even though I’m an obstetrician, I still have common sense.”
Josiah nodded. “All right, I trust your diagnosis.”
The water was boiling, and for a moment, the two of them fell silent.
Lysander said, “You should head back now. Tiffany is probably waiting for you.”
