Chapter 434 There Was No Room For Discussion
Adrian’s expression slightly tensed, a faint crease forming between his brows as he attempted to mask his emotions. By the time he gently knocked on Lysander’s door once more, his features had smoothed into their customary gentle smile. He announced with a soft warmth, “We’re back.”
White Coat trailed behind him, barking joyfully as if catching his mood.
“Mm, Lysander replied her voice slightly distant. After responding, she drifted back to her seat by the window, her gaze lost in the vague contours of the outside world.
Observing that she desired solitude, Adrian chose not to intrude further. Noticing the nearly cleared dining table, he quietly made his way to the kitchen. There, he meticulously washed the used utensils and neatly arranged them back in the cupboard.
In the living room, Lysander maintained her
templative silence.
Adrian approached her gently, his voice laced with concern, “What happened? Did the conversation not go well?”
The discussion had not merely been unproductive–it had been utterly futile.
A bitter chuckle echoed silently within Lysander, though her face remained impassive. She managed a simple, “In
to be as current state, we can’t discuss anything. Dr. Sutton, I really appreciate your help, but I’d like
for a while now.”
“All right, I’ll take my leave then,” Adrian responded, his movements carrying a trace of reluctance. As he moved toward the door, he paused to gently pat the fluffy head of the puppy following him, whispering, “Take good care of her for me, I’m leaving first.”
White Coat seemed to understand, rustling softly as it stopped following him further.
Lysander found herself alone until the afternoon. Not a single message or piece of news came through. Not worrying that she might disturb Daphne, she finally decided to reach out herself.
“The user you’re trying to reach is currently unavailable…”
The automated response of customer service greeted her repeatedly, regardless of how many times she attempted the call.
Given the dire circumstances the Everhart family was currently facing, Lysander resolved to take a taxi directly to the office building of Everhart Corporation.
The once bustling Everhart Corporation was cerily silent and deserted. The grand lobby, previously guarded and lively, was now devoid of security personnel. The reception desk stood unattended, and the remaining employees seemed disoriented and uninformed.
A sense of urgency propelled Lysander to ask one of them, “Can you guys get in touch with Ms. Everhart?”
The employee’s response was a’shake of his head. “We’ve been unable to reach her by phone. The bank representatives are here already, it seems they’re planning to seal the office and liquidate the assets. We’ve been trying all morning, but there’s no response.
Before Lysander could process the full implication, a lawyer, sharply dressed and accompanied by bank

preparing for an assessment of the assets.
Lysander didn’t hesitate to intercept the lead lawyer. “Excuse me… Are you the bank’s appointed lawyer?” she inquired urgently.
The lawyer eyed her carefully before replying, “Indeed, may I ask if you are Ms. Daphne Everhart?”
Lysander shook her head. “No, I’m not her. But she’s a good friend of mine. Can you tell me… what’s going All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
on now?”
Adjusting his gold–rimmed glasses, the lawyer explained, “The situation with Everhart Corporation is rather complex. It’s not merely a simple bankruptcy; their assets are far insufficient to cover the debts.”
Taking a sharp breath, Lysander pressed, “What do you plan to do?”
It seemed that the situation was even more critical than she had anticipated.
The lawyer’s response was diplomatically cautious, “We will proceed legally against the corporate entity to recover the debts. Any disputes will be resolved in court.”.
Lysander knew from Daphne that the legal representative for the Everhart family was Rufus.
She persisted, not letting the lawyer move on, “There’s been an emergency at their home. Could you possibly extend a grace period? They’ll address this as soon as they can after sorting out their family issues.”
The lawyer, clearly skeptical of Everharts‘ ability to settle the debts, replied reluctantly, “I’m sorry, as a lawyer, my duty is to my client. If Everhart Corporation can’t meet the repayment within the legally stipulated time, incarceration is the only alternative.
Lysander found herself momentarily speechless.
“Miss, could you please step aside?” the lawyer requested.
“Wait,” Lysander implored, biting her lip, “Can you give me a little more time? Just half an hour, let me try again.”
The lawyer expressed his skepticism with a hint of incredulity in his voice, “After all this considerable delay and no attempts at repayment, what could possibly change in just half an hour?”
“Look, putting someone behind bars isn’t going to fill your pockets; it’s a no–win situation. Half an hour is hardly a significant extension. If I still can’t come up with the funds after that, you’re free to follow through with
your procedures–it won’t be too late by then.”
At this juncture, she found herself with no alternatives but to set aside her pride and endeavor to assist the Everhart family in navigating their/financial straits.
The lawyer, acting on behalf of the bank, was well aware that retrieving the funds would make his job a lot easier. Checking his watch, he reluctantly agreed, “I’ll extend your time by another half an hour. Should anyone else ask, my hands are tied.”
“Thank you, that’s more than generous,” Lysander acknowledged gratefully. After ending the conversation, she swiftly moved to a secluded area to make an urgent phone call.
Howard’s contact had long been a fixture in her pho, reserved for truly critical moments. The tension

was palpable even in the hand that clutched her phone.
The connection was quick, and Howard’s voice was tinged with surprise and happiness, “Lysa? What’s prompted this call?“.
“Yeah, it’s me,” Lysander replied curtly.
Detecting the slight unfamiliarity in her tone, Howard felt a pang of disappointment, yet his voice remained affectionate, “Are you all right? Is there something on your mind you need to discuss?”
He had always harbored a desire to reconnect and reconcile with his biological daughter, from whom he had been estranged for many years. Despite the passage of time, a palpable distance had always lingered between them.
The
mere act of Lysander reaching out had already brought him a sense of joy that would last quite a while.
“I’m okay, it’s just that…” Lysander started, her voice faltering as she grew increasingly embarrassed by her request. She could sense the eagerness in her father’s response.
The amount of debt that Everhart Corporation had accrued with the bank was astronomical. Including the accrued interest, it totaled a daunting fifteen million. It was an amount she could not hope to repay on her own in a short timeframe.
Sensing his daughter’s unease, Howard proactively offered, “Are you in some kind of trouble? Don’t hesitate to tell me.”
With some difficulty, Lysander managed to stammer, “Could you possibly lend me some money?”
Without pausing to inquire about the specifics, Howard quickly responded, “Of course, just let me know how much you need, and I’ll arrange for it to be sent to you straight away.”
Lysander’s face warmed with anxiety as she mentioned, “Fifteen million… would that be all right?”
It was truly a substantial sum of money.
Though taken aback by the magnitude of the sum, Howard didn’t press her for reasons. Instead, he assured her, “Absolutely, I can provide that. I have three million readily available in my personal account which I can transfer immediately. The remaining funds, however, will need to be drawn from the company’s reserves, and that… well, Thorne Constructions and Energies is currently under Josiah’s management. To access the company funds, we would need his signature.”
