Her Precious Baby

Chapter 189

Chapter 189

Seeing that, Angeline was so stunned that the laundry basket in her hand fell to the ground with a thud, causing the water to splatter everywhere.

Little did she expect Wilfred to eavesdrop on their conversation in secret.

If I knew things would turn out this way, I wouldn’t have talked to Dr. Kingsley about all these. What do I do? Did Grandpa faint because he overheard everything we said?

Angeline’s face went pale as those thoughts flashed in her mind. Her lips trembled as she tugged Liam’s arm and nervously asked, “Dr. Kingsley, how is my grandpa?”

“Ms. Sorelle, your grandpa isn’t in good condition. We need to rush him to the emergency room immediately, or the consequences will be dire.”

With a grave expression, Liam whipped around and left to get the nurses after saying those words.

Shortly after, a group of medical personnel hurried over with a stretcher, placed Wilfred on it, and pushed him toward the operating room.

“Old Mr. Sorelle, you must wake up. You haven’t finished building the toy blocks with me…” Floretta sobbed.

Holding her half-built toy blocks, she stared in the direction of the operating room while bawling her eyes out.

Deep down, Angeline knew very well that Wilfred falling unconscious must have been a big shock to Floretta. After all, the little girl was still young.

She gently caressed Floretta’s cheek and wiped the tears rolling down the latter’s face as she warmly comforted, “Sweetheart, don’t cry. Old Mr. Sorelle will be alright.”

Just then, the red light outside the emergency room lit up. Coupled with the utter silence in the atmosphere, Angeline felt even more unsettled.

I’ll never be able to live in peace if Grandpa dies just like this.

After an indeterminate time, a woman’s sharp voice rang out in the corridor.

“D*mn you, Angeline!”

The next moment, Joseline stormed over in high heels. She wore a fierce expression on her face and had an imposing aura surrounding her.

Angeline’s face clouded over at that.

Nonetheless, she remained nonchalant as she looked at Joseline and coldly retorted, “Joseline, we’re at the hospital. Please mind your behavior.” Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.

“Y-You…”

Joseline was so furious her face flushed red, and she didn’t hesitate to lift her hand and land a slap across Angeline’s cheek.

“You still have the nerve to say that? You almost killed Grandpa!”

Angeline failed to dodge in time and suffered a hard slap across her cheek. Following the loud smack, she raised her eyes and shot Joseline an icy glare.

Intimidated by the frightening look in her eyes, Joseline staggered several steps back. It took her a long while to find her words.

“W-Why are you staring at me like that?”

“Just look at how ridiculous you are.”

Angeline shot Joseline a hostile look as she enunciated those words syllable by syllable in a frosty tone.

“Aren’t you aware of Grandpa’s condition? If you hadn’t sent those helpers away, how would his condition have worsened?”

“How dare you talk back to me? You’re the one who made Grandpa so angry that he fainted! Have you been looking forward to his death so that you can snatch Sorelle Group’s shares?”

Joseline pointed at Angeline as she spoke. Her finger was visibly trembling, perhaps because of the overwhelming emotions within her.

“Stop talking about the shares!”

Angeline’s gaze was full of hatred and resentment as she smacked Joseline’s hand away. “I’ve only visited once since Grandpa got admitted to the hospital. On the other hand, you’ve been putting on an act in front of the media, making people think you’re a caring and dutiful granddaughter when in reality, you’re a heartless demon who mistreats elders. You better watch out. Let’s see how you can continue putting on an act when I report you to the police!”

Angeline looked at Joseline condescendingly. By then, her aura had overpowered the latter, leaving her at a loss for words. The warning look in Angeline’s eyes was evident when she noticed how guilty the latter looked.

As the saying goes, he who never wrongs others does not fear the knock in the night.

The exhaustion written all across Joseline’s face was so apparent despite the heavy makeup she was wearing, and Angeline, who noticed that, figured the former probably had not been leading an easy life

either.

Now that I’ve secured evidence of Joseline’s attempt to kill Wilfred, all that’s left for me to do is wait for Delroy to regain consciousness and testify that Joseline was the one who bribed him to do the job. That’ll be sufficient for Joseline to spend the rest of her life in jail!

At the same time, realization dawned upon Joseline, who was enraged beyond words. A tinge of hatred surfaced in her gaze, and she abruptly lifted her hand and shoved Angeline away.

“Go to hell, Angeline.”

They were on the seventh floor, and Angeline’s back was facing the railings. Without a doubt, the consequences would be dire if she was pushed down.

“Ahhh!”

Terror shone in Angeline’s eyes as she lost balance and fell backward.

The sound of the wind howling beside her ears grew increasingly deafening. She reached out to grab hold of something but to no avail. All that she heard was Floretta’s sobs.

“Angel! Watch out!”

In the nick of time, a large palm appeared out of nowhere, grabbed her elbow, and pulled her back forcefully.

“Angeline, are you okay?”

A deep voice of a man that was laced with anxiousness rang out.

Angeline fell forward into a warm embrace. Her nose slammed right into the man’s sturdy chest, yet she didn’t feel any pain.

Her empty gaze was filled with fear. Evidently, she was scared out of her wits.

I was this close to dying… I almost died being pushed down the stairs by Joseline!

“Angeline, look at me!”

Someone shook her shoulders so violently that she grew dizzy and almost threw up everything she had eaten last night. That gradually forced her to snap back to her senses.

Lifting her head, she stared blankly at Evander.

What caught her attention was how his usually emotionless eyes were full of worry and panic.

No longer able to hold back her emotions, she burst into tears and threw herself into Evander’s arms.

“Why are you here? Do you know I almost fell down the stairs?” she asked, choking on tears.

Anyone was afraid of death, and she was no exception. The horrible feeling of a close brush with death had undoubtedly left her in fear and trepidation.

Evander tenderly caressed her head. There was a tinge of guilt in his warm voice. “I know. I’m sorry I was late.”

Hearing the man’s calm yet firm voice, Angeline felt her pounding heart at ease. She hugged him tightly, unwilling to loosen her grip, as though she had finally found a lifebuoy after almost drowning in the sea.

After going through the life-and-death situation earlier, she realized her resentment and hatred toward Evander were no longer that important.

No matter what had happened and how long it had been, she was still as dependent on Evander as ever.

It was just that she had always suppressed those feelings deep inside her, keeping them unrevealed.

Meanwhile, Joseline was overwhelmed with panic after realizing the trouble she had caused. She was secretly regretting the reckless act she had just done.

Before anyone noticed, Joseline intended to flee without a word. However, she only took a few steps when she felt a tug on her lower body.

“You evil witch! You almost killed Angel. You can’t leave just like that! I can’t let you go!” Floretta yelled furiously at Joseline.

The little girl’s eyes were red, making it evident that she had just shed tears.
