Chapter 11 Autumn Recruitment

After sending off Kevin, Huston was going to attend a meeting at

10.

Glancing at the time, he called his secretary, Sam Andrews.

“Change the 10 AM meeting to a video conference. I won’t be able to make it in person.”

Sam was taken aback but quickly complied, sending the necessary documents to Huston’s email and informing the attendees about the change.

Inside the spacious and well-lit conference room, murmurs filled the air. “Why did Mr. Lloyd suddenly switch to a video conference?”

“Maybe he’s on a business trip,” someone whispered. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

Sam felt a tinge of embarrassment. Mr. Lloyd was known for never being late or absent from work. He would arrive at the office by 8:30 every day.

It was indeed surprising that he would attend the meeting from elsewhere today.

As Huston engaged in the video conference from his study, he glanced at the time displayed at the bottom of the screen now and then.

Kevin had requested a change of Evelyn’s IV drip in an hour.

camera and called Sam again.

“When will the autumn recruitment begin?”

Sam flipped through the documents. “Coming up soon, the day after tomorrow.”

Each year, HM Law Office conducted recruitment from both educational institutions and the professional field, seeking out elite talents and promising individuals within the industry.

The selection process was rigorous, with tens of thousands of applicants competing for only five available positions.

“Save one position for me,” Huston stated.

Sam was astonished. Once, a senior executive had requested to add his relative to the list, and Huston fired the executive when he found out. But now…

Sam answered awkwardly, “Ok, Mr. Lloyd. The position will be saved for…?”

“Evelyn Shelton.”

When Evelyn finally woke up, it was already past one o’clock in the afternoon.

Opening her eyes, she slowly sat up in bed. She reached for her phone on the nightstand and was shocked when she saw the time.

Glancing down, Evelyn noticed the medical tape on the back of her hand and the medicine nearby.

Her gaze wandered to the empty space beside her. Slipping on

her slippers, she got out of bed and headed downstairs.

The first floor was deserted, prompting her to call out tentatively, “Huston?”

After a moment of silence, there was no response.

She thought to herself, ‘Perhaps he went out?’

Relieved, she exhaled but froze in her tracks as she turned around.

There Huston stood, casually dressed, arms crossed over his chest, observing her calmly from the stairs.

Evelyn awkwardly forced a smile. “You’re home…”

“I’m home. You seem disappointed.” It wasn’t a question; it was an observation.

Evelyn stood there, rooted to the spot, still struggling to comprehend how to coexist peacefully under the same roof as the man before her.
