Falling For The Contract Bride Chapter 216
Chapter 216 It Was Not the Normal Spicy, It Was Goddamn Spicy!
Mu Zhi glanced at Lu Jinye surprisedly. However, Lu Jinye did not seem to be agitated at all. It was as if this matter did not bother him as much as it did to Mu Zhi.
Lu Jinye acknowledged Linda, who was at the other end of the phone, “I see.”
“Mr. Chairman, the directors are waiting for you to start the meeting.”
Linda continued with a hint of reluctance. She was hemming and hawing whether she should speak up or not.
After a while, Lu Jinye replied, “I’ll be there in a while.”
When he had cut off the phone call, Mu Zhi reached out her hand and put it on top of Lu Jinye’s, “I’ve asked Xie Xiu for help just now to force the truth out of Linda. I worsened the situation.”
Mu Zhi breathed in deeply and tried to let herself calm down. But she still felt on edge after she had unloaded herself.
Lu Jinye simply consoled her, “It’s not your fault. I gave Xie Xiu a simplified version of the agreement two days before. The agreement literally states a zero profit towards Xie Xiu’s company as a guideline for negotiation, so it is totally normal for him to refuse it.”
“Why did you do this?”
Mu Zhi could not read Lu Jinye’s mind. But she saw the certainty in his eyes.
He glanced at the time. “I need to go to the company. Looks like we can’t stargaze together anymore. It will be a hectic day at the company today.”
“It’s alright.”
Mu Zhi replied composedly. She got off from the car to let Lu Jinye leave.
However, on second thought, she got back onto the passenger’s seat and declared, “I’m accompanying you to the company.”
Lu Jinye raised his head and stared deeply into Mu Zhi’s eyes.
“Why?”
“I wish to stay by your side even though I can’t help you with what you’re experiencing right now.”
Mu Zhi bit her lip and answered seriously.
Lu Jinye approached Mu Zhi. He kissed her soft lips, but briefly and gently. At this moment… time was running out. There was no extra time for cuddles.
Lu Jinye and Mu Zhi hurried over to the office straight off.
The meeting commenced right away after they arrived.
Mu Zhi led Linda downstairs to get some Starbucks coffee for everyone as the meeting was expected to be lanky and aggressive.
It took Mu Zhi, Linda, and a few other secretaries to carry a total of 18 cups of coffee. When they walked out of the shop, one of the secretaries exclaimed, “I have this weird feeling but I cannot explain why. I feel that Secretary Mu and Chairman Lu are getting more and more in sync.”
“We felt more at peace too after Secretary Mu came.”
Another secretary chipped in cheerfully.
“In the past, whenever Mr. Chairman summoned a meeting, everyone would be terror-stricken. Nobody would run the risk of speaking up. However, Mr. Chairman seemed to be more accommodating after Secretary Mu’s return.”
Mu Zhi did not put to heart their gossip about her.
She only smiled, as if she was listening to stories of someone else.
The feeling of serenity she felt now compared to that during the olden days when she listened to their guess about Mrs. Lu was different.
It was because that she knew she would not be able to hold the title of Mrs. Lu forever. She would need to surrender it sooner or later.
It was none of her business.
But now… When they mentioned Lu Jinye, especially during this critical period when the gossip about him was all over the place, Mu Zhi felt even more certain of her feelings.
She unconsciously tightened her grip onto the coffee cup in her hand, and slowly strode towards Lu Jinye’s company.
All of a sudden, the secretaries beside her stopped advancing and went silent. Their gazes rested afar. Mu Zhi was curious, so she looked in the same direction as they were.
A black Bugatti’s window was out down. The man in the car wore a pair of sunglasses. He exuded an extraordinary aura.
At the same time, a well-dressed and professional-looking beautiful lady walked towards Mu Zhi. Before she even spoke, Mu Zhi had already handed over the coffee she was holding to the secretaries beside her, “Leave us, I’ll return in a while.”
Of course, these secretaries knew Xie Xiu.
After all, they thought this man had influence over the company’s survival chances, without knowledge about the company’s administration or financial state at a more discreet level.
Mu Zhi nodded her head gently towards the secretary, “You don’t need to escort me there, I’ll go myself.”
As she finished, Mu Zhi walked towards Xie Xiu. Xie Xiu got off the car and smiled as he invited Mu Zhi, “Please get in, Miss Mu.”
Mu Zhi politely looked at Xie Xiu and replied, “Mr. Xie, I know a place with delectable grilled fish. We could try it out, and it’s on me.”
Xie Xiu gently lifted the corner of his lips, “Miss Mu, is that your excuse for not wanting to be with me a little while longer?”
“I only thought the fish was delicious.”
Mu Zhi explained.
Although her intention was written all over her face, Xie Xiu acted in concert with her. He nodded his head lightly, “Alright, please lead the way, Miss Mu.”
Mu Zhi turned around and headed towards the restaurant. Xie Xiu walked along with her.
They were not too far away from where they were headed, but Mu Zhi was silent all the way. She waited for Xie Xiu to speak first, but he kept mum.
Both of them slowly walked to the restaurant, and when they arrived at the restaurant, the waiter pulled the chairs for them.
Xie Xiu picked up the chopsticks on the table, then put them down again.
Mu Zhi did everything as if she was perfecting a mission. She lifted the menu and started to order the dishes. She ordered the spiciest grilled fish and some side dishes. Only then, she asked Xie Xiu if he wanted anything.
Xie Xiu looked at her warmly. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
“I’m good. These are enough.”
He did not add to the order, nor show any dissatisfaction towards Mu Zhi’s selection of dishes. He calmly handed the menu back to the waiter.
“How could this be enough? Don’t you have any special requests?”
“As you please, Miss Mu, you are the one picking up the tab.”
Xie Xiu’s stare did not leave Mu Zhi, nor did he exhibit any displeasure.
However, Mu Zhi seemed annoyed whenever she looked at Xie Xiu.
Because she could not predict what Xie Xiu had on his mind.
A short while later, the fish was served. It was placed in the middle of the table.
Mu Zhi separated her chopsticks, picked up a small piece of the fish, and put it on her plate. She urged Xie Xiu, “Mr. Xiu, do have plenty! This fish may be spicy, but it is absolutely tasty!”
She faked her enthusiasm and asserted excitedly.
It was not the normal spicy, because it was goddamn spicy!
But Xie Xiu did not touch his chopsticks at all.
He only stared at Mu Zhi attentively.
