Chasing My Ex-wife Back

Chapter 29

Chapter 29

“What??????” Cole, Connie, and Eric said in unison, with confused looks all over their faces.

Dr Telford frowned. “You all aren’t aware?!”

“What the hell are you talking about?” Cole voiced out.

“You must be the husband, Sir.”

Cole was lost for words but he shook his head.

“He’s….he’s the husband of the woman in there,” Connie answered, ignoring the glare Cole was giving her.

“I am sorry for breaking the news to you all like this. I thought you knew already. We carried out a quick scan which shows she is pregnant but I can’t tell exactly how many months until the test results are out. But I think she is a few weeks along.”

“Her passing out was a mixture of stress, pain, and her phobia of blood. Her BP is really high and she needs lots of rest so we will be keeping her here for a few days to monitor her.”

“My…my daughter is pregnant?” Eric mumbled, feeling numb.

“She is.” The doctor assured.

“Can we see her now?” Connie asked.

“Yes, but you all will have to go in one at a time.”

“Okay, thank you!” Connie didn’t wait for them to decide who would be going in first among them. She made her way in immediately.

“I will be back when the test results are ready!” Dr Telford said, then excused himself.

There was a couple of seconds of silence between Cole and Eric until Eric spoke. “Congratulations,

Son.”

“Sorry!” Cole frowned, hoping he heard wrong.

“You are going to be a father and me, a grandfather. That’s great news. Congratulations to us all.”

“I almost thought you still loved Hailey because of the day you couldn’t stop staring at her at the meeting. But if it is Vanessa you want to be with, then it is fine by us. She was the one you wanted to marry in the beginning.”

Cole chuckled in disbelief. “You telling me Congratulations? What the hell? You must have so much faith in your daughter, don’t you?”

This time around it was Eric who was looking confused.

“What do you mean?

“You think the child your daughter is carrying is mine?” Cole placed a hand on his own chest.

“Why not? You are the only man I know in her life. Everyone knows you both are going to marry eventuaily, so!” Eric shrugged.

“I am sure this newborn will bring so much reunion and joy to you both. I am happy for

Vanessa.

“It is such a pity that you think you are being a good father right now.”

“What do you mean?” Eric asked.

“Did you ever love Hailey?”

“What does she have to do with this conversation?”

“Because I am trying to point out how much of a hypocrite you are.”

“Did you actually believe Hailey seduced me so she could sleep with me?”

“Isn’t that what happened? We all saw you both on the bed.”

“What if I was the one that forced myself on her?”

“But you said it then that you had no idea how you got to the same bed with her.”

you and

“So you believed a stranger over your own daughter? You believed a stranger over your own flesh and blood?”

“I don’t understand you, Cole. Why bring back all of this information?”

“Because you are being a fucking hypocrite. you couldn’t even believe your first daughter when she told you she knew nothing about that and here you are instantly believing that Vanessa is

pregnant.”

“You think she is faking it?”

“That’s not the point! What hurt me most is the fact you said you thought I was in love with Hailey.”

“I have only loved one woman in my entire life and that’s Hailey. If I can’t have her, then I would rather remain single all my life.”

“And just so you know, she didn’t have a hand in what happened that night during my supposed engagement with Vanessa.”

“I don’t know how Hailey got into the guest room but I am sure she was tricked by Vanessa and that evil you call your wife!”

“Vanessa put something in my drink and told me to go to the guest room. I got there, thought. Vanessa was Hailey, and made love to her.” All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

“I remembered how Hailey cried so much, telling you that she had no idea what happened. What

did

you do? You hit her on the cheek and humiliated her.”

“Vanessa never wanted to marry me because I wasn’t one of the top five richest men then. Just like her mother, she is also a damn gold digger.”

“Look, I know you are not happy with my daughter right now so I am not going to judge you for thinking this way.”

“What about Hailey? She’s not your daughter?”

Eric sighed. “That is not what I mean. Everyone has a past and I am sure we have all done something we are not proud of at some point in our lives. This baby could really be the ray of hope we need in our lives. This could be a new beginning for us. Most especially for you and Vanessa.

“Is that what you got from all that I have said?” Cole stared at Eric in disbelief.

“I thought I addressed all.”

“Why do you all resent Hailey so much?” Cole couldn’t help but ask.

Eric looked away!

“Come on, answer me! You know I am legally married to your first daughter and now you are pushing your second daughter to me.” Cole knew Eric had no idea about the twins. He was tempted to blast him about being the worst father on earth with that information but he stopped himself.

“You have always preferred Vanessa over Hailey, haven’t you?”

“I would appreciate it if we do not talk about Hailey.”

“Why? Because you feel guilty?”

“I don’t know what has come over you, Cole. Why are you constantly in her business?!” Eric asked, raising his voice a bit.

“I am her husband and I’ve got our marriage certificate to prove that. I have every right to be in her business.”

“Look, I am not exactly proud of what I have done in the past or how I have handled things.”

“Having favorites among my children is not something of my nature. All evidence was turned to Hailey then. It was just so hard to believe.”

“Okay, so you chased her from the house. She married me just to make you happy and save the company but what did she get in return? You never even spoke to her for years. Nor were you bothered about her when she disappeared. What sort of a father are you? You know you are the

only one she has left as a parent and you completely failed her!”

Eric was quiet for a few seconds. “If it were possible to go back to the past and make amends, I promise you that I will act differently. I am not a terrible person, Cole. I was just stuck at that moment. I am not denying that I made bad choices and I handled situations terribly.”

“I may look really normal to you all but I promise you that I am not at ease either. No one sees how much I battle with anxiety and sadness in my alone times.”

“Julz, the lawyer was the one that opened my eyes to the enmity among members of my family. But it was too late to make amends. I am happy for Hailey and I am genuinely proud of what she has made for herself and how far she has come.”

“I feel so intimidated around her and I can’t even look her in the eyes because I know of my wrong deeds. Nevertheless, I am glad that she is helping out with the company. She has always had a heart of gold. I know I can’t reach her or be with her but my prayers are always with her.”

“I am sorry if I sounded insensitive. I know you and Hailey are married but I heard from Vanessa that the divorce will soon be finalized.”

“Hailey wants nothing to do with you so I felt you’ve moved on. And I just want you to know that I have nothing against you and Vanessa.”

“What the hell makes you all think I am the father to that baby? Cole said at the top of his voice furiously.

“You both have spent time together in the past few years!”

Cole chuckled in disbelief. “I just told you that Hailey is the woman I will forever love. You think I’ll have this feeling in my heart and still go ahead to fuck Vanessa?”

“Wh….what do you mean by that?” Eric stammered, feeling confused and embarrassed.

“If Vanessa is pregnant, then the baby is not mine“
