Chapter 61

Chapter 61

“Enough!”

Axel’s exasperated voice echoed through the relentless downpour, a blend of frustration and confusion

melding with the gentle beat of the raindrops. Feeling the need to breathe, Axel hastily freed himself

from the confining embrace of his hoodie, the drenched fabric clinging to his skin like a second layer.

“You?!” They chorused in disbelief, the shared surprise cutting through the pouring rain.

Jasmine, her voice barely audible over the rain, whispered a shocked inquiry, “You’re the stalker?”

Axel, irritated by the accusation, responded with a growl, rising to his full height.

His imposing figure, standing at a lofty six–foot–five, completely towered above Jasmine’s diminutive

five–foot–six frame, prompting her to instinctively retreat a step.

The air thickened with tension as Jasmine asked, her voice laced with a blend of incredulity and fear:

“Why were you following me?”

Axel, devoid of his glasses, allowed her a clear view of his beautiful eyes.

However, the realization that someone with such gentle features could potentially be a stalker left

Jasmine genuinely frightened.

Determined to seize control of the situation, Jasmine tightened her grip on the umbrella, eyeing Axel

suspiciously.

Axel, holding the umbrella lightly to avoid being beaten further and to only to avoid conflict found

himself unprepared for the force Jasmine exerted. As he released the umbrella, she seized it with all

her might, anticipating a triumphant yank. The sudden resistance sent her toppling backward, her

footing lost to the sl*ppery dance on the wet ground and she landed unceremoniously on the ground

with her butt. She groaned out in pain from the impact.

Axel’s frustration boiled over as he vehemently defended himself, “Look, I don’t know what your issue

is with me, but I am not a stalker. I wasn’t following you!” His words echoed with anger, and his ears,

tinged with embarrassment, betrayed. the intensity of his emotions flushing an angry shade of red as

he stared down at her.

The woman’s accusation grated on Axel, her innocent gaze irritating him even more. The vulnerability

in her eyes as she stared up at him as though on the brink of tears and utterly terrified, irked him in a

way he couldn’t quite comprehend. Her flinch when he yelled, a subtle withdrawal, seemed to pierce

through his anger, and gradually, a reluctant calm settled within him.

Her drenched form, the relentless rain had left her utterly soaked, shivering in the cold, a pitiful sight

that momentarily softened Axel’s hardened demeanor.

A sigh escaped Axel as he stooped to gather the dog food he had purchased, swift and efficient.

Beside it lay his phone, almost within her reach. Without a second thought, he retrieved it, the woman

flinching and covering her face,as if anticipating an impending blow.

Her reaction made him uncomfortable,he wasn’t a violent man, and he certainly wasn’t about to inflict

harm on a woman even in the midst of a heated argument.

“I’m not!…” Axel began in a tone that still carried the remnants of his anger but abruptly trailed off.

Another sigh followed, marking a shift in his tone NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

“I don’t know what your issue is, but I wasn’t following you.” His words, now delivered in a calmer tone,

hung in the air like the raindrops that drenched them both.

Leaving her behind, Axel turned away.

Jasmine stood up slowly, her senses gradually returning after the frightful encounter. Adrenaline

coursed through her veins, and the close call of almost being struck by the man left her in a daze. The

plastic bags containing her purchases lay forgotten in a corner, the tissue within likely soaked by the

relentless rain. Her light pajamas clung uncomfortably to her b*dy, dampened by the downpour. The

embarrassment, fear, and bitter cold settled into her bones, each step accentuating the pain from her

fall.

Her gaze fixed on the retreating figure of the man. A barrage of questions flooded. her mind, finding an

outlet in a muttered inquiry, “How did you find me? You’re the same man from the exhibition. It couldn’t

be a coincidence, could it?” The words sl*pped from her l*ps in a low voice, carrying a mix of confusion

and. suspicion. She was being watched, she could sense it every single day. The feeling unsettled her.

Axel lingered at the entrance of the suite, a silent guardian ensuring the lone woman’s safe arrival to

the building. His concern for her well–being fueled a sense of responsibility, and only when he was

assured of her security, when he sighted her from the building, did he turn to leave.

As he reached the elevator, the doors about to close, he caught sight of her, prompting him to wait.

Standing outside the elevator, Jasmine regarded him with a mix of confusion and curiosity. An impatient

query escaped Axel’s l*ps, “You coming?” She joined him int the confined space, and he pressed the

button for the eighteenth floor. A question. echoed in her mind; how did he know her residence was on

Awkward silence enveloped them as they ascended. The woman stole a side. glance at Axel,

neighbor residing in flat 321, while she occupied flat 322. The coincidence was staggering, and her

disbelief almost brought her to the brink of collapse. She watched in silent astonishment as Axel

effortlessly entered the password for his apartment, the door closing behind him without a backward

glance.

The weight of embarrassment pressed upon her as she retreated to her own. apartment. Shame filled

her, turning her face crimson. The man from the exhibition was the same man who had discovered her

unwelcome intrusion into his home and had found her asleep on his couch, her new next–door

neighbor. To compound her embarrassment, she had also physically attacked him earlier in the evening

accusing him of being a stalker, meanwhile his was heading home! The building they both shared.

As she closed the door behind her, the memory of the broken phone resurfaced. Axel had grabbed it off

the floor, revealing a shattered screen with multiple cracks. The physical damage mirrored the

emotional turmoil she now experienced. Overwhelmed by the chain of events, she buried her face into

her pillow, the fabric absorbing her muffled sobs. In the midst of the humiliation, she wondered; Could

my life possibly get any worse?

The man must think she was mentally unstable.
