Chapter 16: 15
Chapter 16: 15
17th March, 2018
Dear Danielle,
My JAMB exam results were out almost forty-eight hours ago, but I haven't checked them. If you are
wondering why, it's because I'm scared. Yeah yeah I know I act like almost nothing scares me, but I'm
scared about this. I need to nail this exam because my future depends on it. I can't keep on depending
on Aunty Amara and Grammy forever. I can't fail my parents again. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
My parents had both been doctors- two of the best in the state. They met in a medical school in
America where they became friends. They were always telling me stories their college days. When they
were alive they would always tell me how I would be a wonderful doctor like them and how I would
study abroad like they did. They already had my life planned out, but being the best parents ever they
never failed to tell me that they would support whatever I wanted to do as far as it was legal. Who
would want to disappoint parents like that? So my choice in courses was not difficult to make. I would
grant my late parents' wishes no matter what.
Now I'm looking at my phone screen with jittery hands and a leaping heart realizing what I had failed to
think about. Studying medicine is a feat not a joke. I barely pass my Chemistry classes, so how will I
fare in this stupid exam. I'm nothing near to a perfect student, so what am I doing? The exam has been
taken anyways, the deed done. I have no choice but to see the outcome.
I really need God's help right now. My target school just asked for a 290 cut-off mark. Just a 290. So,
I'm just going to type my name and registration number. I have to tap on that enter button. Just tap on it
and I'll know. Danielle, this is really hard. I have to do it. I got a...
294? Wait... 290... 294!!!! It's not a joke right? That's a 294 right? I'm going crazy right now. How did I
get a 294 out of 400? So should I tell others? I should tell them now or later? I'll just do it now. Camille
will be excited. She's been bugging me ever since she saw hers. See you later then.
I'm quickly walking to my next class which is the dreaded Chemistry when arms wrap around my torso
followed by an excited squeal. That means one thing - Camille. I turn around to hug her properly.
"Ohmigod. You did it girl. You did it. And you were just so scared for nothing."
"Who said I was-"
"Oh shut up. I'm not blind."
I take a glance at my watch. Two minutes till class starts. I don't want that man's problem this morning.
"Ke-ke let's start going to class already. The way you're doing you would think it was your result. Oh
wait. Yours is way better. Just forget what I said."
