Chapter 807: Heartache
Shannon clenched her fists tightly.
She looked at Brendon with pitiful eyes, her pale lips and slightly haggard face evoking deep sympathy.
“Brendon… there’s something I’ve always wanted to explain to you,” Shannon began, trying to seize the moment. But Brendon didn’t give her the chance. He spoke calmly, “Shannon, I gave Holly enough face by letting her leave.”
“The nurse clearly told me that the person who donated blood to me was Ranita! As for you, you were too underweight to donate any blood.”
“Brendon…” Shannon bit her lip, her body swaying, “I didn’t lie to you. It was Holly who kept talking… I couldn’t get a word in.”
“Really? From yesterday until now, why didn’t you say what you wanted to explain?” These words seemed to be the last straw that broke the camel’s back. Shannon gasped for air, tears streaming down her face. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
“Sob! Brendon, I really didn’t mean to deceive you! At that time, I begged the nurse to let me donate blood, but she refused! Even though I didn’t give you blood, I’ve been here taking care of you for two days and nights. Was that fake?”
Shannon tried to shift the topic, but Brendon was already wary of her. He knew Shannon wasn’t as innocent as she appeared.
“Shannon, go back and rest! I said there’s no need for you here! Besides, we’ve already broken off our engagement. There’s no need for you to waste your time here.”
Shannon couldn’t hold on any longer and collapsed to the ground, crying pitifully.
Ranita stood tall beside Brendon, like the villainous character in a story.
Shannon was sent back.
The ward returned to peace. The evening sunlight streamed through the window, casting a golden glow on the bedside. Brendon’s pale face gained a bit of color.
Brendon kept staring at her.
Ranita felt uneasy under his gaze and finally squeezed out a sentence, “Why are you staring at me like that?!”
“If you have something to say, just say it.”
Brendon asked seriously, “Do you know how upset I was when you turned and left yesterday?”
“I was almost driven mad with anger, but then I thought if I died of anger, my wife and child would run off with someone else. So I held on.”
Seeing him joke around, Ranita said irritably, “Didn’t you say your whole body hurts? How can you still joke?”
Brendon immediately hissed, “It does hurt.”
“I heard you were scared during the surgery?” After a pause, Brendon’s voice became low and hoarse, “I’m sorry for making you worry.”
This apology was the last thing Ranita wanted to hear.
Her eyes welled up with tears. After a long time, she choked out, “Don’t say sorry! I’m the one who should apologize!”
“I dragged you into this!” Ranita’s hand was held by him. The man half-lay there, looking up at her and said, “Ranita, if you really feel guilty, stay and take care of me.”
Ranita squinted and chuckled. She had been so moved just now.
“I’ll hire a nurse for you. I’ll pay.”
“A life-saving grace usually requires a lifetime of gratitude!” Brendon scratched her palm and said pitifully, “Ranita, I want you to stay by my side.”
“Can you?”
Ranita’s palm tingled from his touch.
In just two or three days, he had lost a lot of weight; the flesh on his cheeks was gone. Fortunately, his bone structure was good. Even when thin, he still looked charming.
Ranita’s heart ached deeply.
