Chapter 896
Caught between two powerhouses, Dustin knew he couldn't afford to cross either of them.
All he could do was pretend not to notice the brawl between the two financial moguls right at his neighborhood's entrance on such a night.
His phone buzzed-a new one Patrick had given him on the way over, with the SIM card now recovered. The overseas number furrowed his brow. To his surprise, it was his grandmother calling. Dustin had no interest in continuing any spat with Max; he answered the call with a cautious and gentle tone.
"Grandma, have you taken your medicine?"
Desiree had always been stubborn about following her doctor's orders, preferring to incessantly ask about her granddaughter instead.
Dustin had done everything he could, but each lead was a dead end. In his quest to find his sister, he'd even teamed up with the Clements family, only to realize he'd already met her.
And now, his sister was pregnant!
Anyone would be furious.
But Desiree wasn't asking about her granddaughter this time; she was concerned about him.
"Are you feeling better? Are you safe?"
Dustin always had a gut feeling that Desiree knew more than she let on, especially since his disappearance was a topic even the family avoided around her.
"Gran, I've been cooperating with the doctor lately. I feel almost back to normal, and there's been this sweet girl keeping me company these past few days. Turns out she's from Beaconsfield too, so I'm thinking of visiting."
Surprise flickered in Dustin's eyes. Given Desiree's health, even leaving the nursing home had been a challenge. Why the sudden urge to visit Beaconsfield?
"Grandma, who's been with you?"
Was this another spy those people had placed by her side?
"Don't worry about that, dear. I've been trying to reach you so many times, but your phone was always off. Now that you're okay, I can rest easy."
Throughout the call, Desiree never once brought up her granddaughter.
Dustin sensed something was off and advised, "Gran, I've found my sister, and I'll bring her home soon."
"Jay, while I do wish for that, shouldn't you thoroughly investigate your disappearance first? Who's behind it? Otherwise, even if she comes back, can you guarantee her safety? You can't even see the truth about the people around you." Dustin was left speechless.
He had just been criticizing Max, pointing out the heavy burdens the Dorsey family had placed on him, yet his own family, the Lynches, urgently needed him to address potential threats-especially regarding Kenzo, who seemed to have vanished from the scene. Dustin had never been betrayed so bitterly before, his face shadowed with a grim expression.
"I understand. I know where the problem lies."
Ending the call, he was about to head upstairs when a thought stopped him.
"What's going on with Brielle's pregnancy?"
He had known Brielle and Max long enough to see a bit of Max's true feelings, but Max's demeanor hardly reflected the excitement one would expect from impending fatherhood. Instead, Max seemed guilt-ridden, despondent.
"Her health isn't great. The baby... it can't be born."
"Damn it!"
Dustin, livid, grabbed Max's collar, "Can't be born? You mean a miscarriage? Then what the hell are you waiting for? Where's the doctor? Get a damn doctor!"
"Brielle has high hopes for this baby. She refuses to let it go."
Dustin fell silent, overwhelmed by frustration.
Ruffling his hair, he glared at Max with a darkened expression.
"How do you plan to deal with the Dorsey family mess? You want Brielle to suffer with you?"
Max looked like a man on trial. "I'll transfer my position at Dorsey International as soon as possible." "You're stepping down as CEO?"
"Yes."

He wanted to mention his more extensive Wall Street assets, worth even more than Dorsey International, but something made him look upstairs.
Right now, the most important thing was Brielle's desire for the child. What would happen to her mentally if she lost it?This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Before Dustin could speak again, his phone rang-it was his father, Raymond.
Dustin moved aside to talk about Dummy's situation quickly.
There was a moment of silence on the other end. "Sarah just left with him last night and hasn't returned yet."
Sarah was Raymond's wife, and Dustin's stepmother.
Suddenly feeling a chill, Dustin hurried outside.
"I'll be right back!"
After a few steps, his throat tightened. He shot Max a decisive look before hopping into his car.
"Dad, look into Max's Wall Street assets."
