Chapter 25
Chapter 25
“I’m only close with Liam because he’s single, and no one would think otherwise about me and him. At
least I won’t have to worry about gossip.
That was what Lianne wanted to say to Zane out loud. However, she was only an assistant to the
figurehead of the Atlas Group. There was no point arguing with Zane since he had the power to erase
all her accomplishments in the company
Hence, Lianne said nothing and simply stared at him. Zane met her gaze.
Zane took his anger out on Lianne for no reason. Yet, he gave her a look as if she had done him dirty.
His burning rage scalded under her skin despite the physical distance between them.
Lianne quietly sat back down and gulped her food.
Zane simmered in silence for a while before speaking in a softened tone. “You should get some early
rest after dinner. Let the doctor know if you don’t feel well”
Lianne compliantly nodded. “Sure.”
Zane had the ability to invoke fear in others without even trying. However, Zane’s wrath was on another
level when tempers flared. It was torture to spend another second with him in the same space.
Lianne quickly finished her plate and swiftly fled from the godforsaken place.
Once in her room, Lianne closed the door from prying eyes and lost the smile on her face. She hissed
in pain at her arm injury.
She refused to let anybody peek into her most vulnerable moments. The last thing she wanted was
sympathy and pity. She could only remove her mask and display her true emotions when she was
alone.
The doctor had patched up the wound on her arm. Nevertheless, she lost a chunk of her flesh, so of
course, it hurt badly. Lianne was only putting on a brave face when she said the pain was nothing with
smile
Her arm was not the only thing hurting, as she was experiencing stomach pain too. It was her
menstrual cramps. Her menstrual cycle was usually accurate, and she had ten days before Aunt Flo
was due for a Visit 1
Lianne went to the bathroom to examine. When it rained, it poured. Her undue period decided to arrive
ahead of time
She called the hotel receptionist for help, but because the hotel was currently closed to the public, the
supply was limited and unreplenished in terms of personal hygiene.
The receptionist told Lianne that there was a supermarket two hundred meters from the right of the
hotel. She should be able to purchase daily necessities there.
Since it was not something Lianne could live without, she endured the pain and put on her down jacket
before heading out of the hotel.
The presence of streetlights was scarce outside the hotel. Plus, it started to drizzle, hampering the
visibility of the road.
Lianne walked alone along the dark and damp road, and the howling road only gave her the creeps.
She clutched her collar to make herself feel safe.
A feral dog jumped out into her path to the nearby supermarket. She shuddered as the dog pounced on
her.
It was a good thing she acted fast and bent over as if to pick up a stone, scaring the feral dog to move
back.
Seeing that the trick worked with the dog, Lianne repeated the motion to shoo the dog away. However,
the feral dog quickly realized it was duped and jumped on Lianne.
Thinking that was it for her, Lianne closed her eyes and anticipated the attack. To her surprise, she
picked up on the dog’s whimper instead.
The cries amid the rainy night were unsettling
Lianne opened her eyes and spotted Pete’s murderous look and the dying dog in his hand…
Both the person and the dog were a frightful sight.
Lianne took a step back. “Mr. Xander, w-why are you here?”
She recalled that Pete did not join them on their trip to Weston. So she was curious as Pete showed up
out of nowhere Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
As always, Pete looked at her with a blank face and took off with the barely lifeless dog without saying
a
word.
