Chapter 18 Lunch?
Janelle’s Pov.
After I told her everything that has happened since the last few days, she smiled.
“You’re one lucky girl, Jan. You mean you are getting married to George McFarland?.”she asked with a wide smile.
I nodded and she gasped.
“Woah!. And, next week you say?.”she asked and you’re telling me now?. C’mon!. Geez…”she said angrily.
“Hey, I’m sorry, okay?. Besides, I almost went crazy when I heard my wedding is in two weeks time without my consent?. That’s really mad,”.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
“Well.. have you guys picked up a dress for the bride maids?.”she asked.
“I don’t have any friend, aside you.”I shook my head.
“You don’t?.”she scoffed and I nodded.
“Okay… that means we will have to find maids for you cause I certainly can’t be your bride maid then be your best. I will go to pick a dress next week, cause this week has run out already.”she explained and I nodded.
“Okay, thanks.”
I glanced at my wrist watch and my eyes widened.
Why the hell?.
How time flies so fast.
“God, I’m doom, Diana. I haven’t even studied the whole new findings on George’s worker and we have to go to the court now. Geez…”I sprang up and grab my gown from the hanger and put it on.
“I have to go.”I said to her and grab some necessary files and zoomed out of the office and to the court.
Gosh!.
I went to my seat and sat down.
Ugh!.
The lawyer came in with the defendant and sat down opposite me.
Okay…. you’ve really got this, Janelle.
The judge walked in and we all rise up.
We sat down after he’d been seated.
He tap the microphone in front of him gently and turned to me,”have the prosecutor find new evidence about the case?.”
“Yes, your honor.”I replied.
“Okay. Let’s have your speech first then.”
I nodded and stood up.
Oh, God. Help me.
I faced the lawyer and he smirked.
“Permit me to ask the defendant some questions, your honor.”
“You have my permission.”he replied.
“You have a daughter, have you not?.”I asked him.
“Yeah.”he spoke inside the microphone in front of him.
“You spoke to your daughter on the very day you stole from McFarland’s company. You spoke to her about her new school and the teddy bear she favorite. You told her you’ve got the money to pay for all those things and..”
“Objection, your honor, the prosecutor is asking too much questions, I suggest we…”
“Objection overruled.. continue please.”
I nodded and breathed out then continued with my questions.
*
We are done with the trial and the judge asked the me to bring the defendant child to the next trial.
Again, we all rise up as he stood up and watched him move out before dispersing.
The lawyer walked to me and I rolled my eyes.
“It’s better you back out now, prosecutor Janelle. It’s obvious this case is bigger than the one you can handle. Back out now so you won’t embarrass yourself later.”he threatened.
“Really?.”I asked as I took a step closer to him and folded my hands.
“My point exactly, attorney Micheal. You’re lagging behind so much in this case and you don’t even have good proves.. your whole proves are all lame. I’ve handled a case like and bigger this before and trust me, I always came out as a winner so, beware.”I replied boldly and a frown appeared on his face.
I grab my files and walked out on him.
Yeah, Janelle. That’s all you need.. boldness!.
I walked through my office corridor and was surprised when I saw the chief and some other prosecutors wandering about in front of my office and peeping inside through the window.
Okay?.
“What’s happening here?.”I asked, befuddled.
They all turned to me..
“Oh, Janelle. Someone is waiting for you inside.”the chief said.
So?…
“Is it another client or..”I said as I opened the door but then stopped when I sighted George on the chair.
This is probably why the guys are moving about.
He turned to me and I shut the door behind me and walked to the desk.
“What …. are you doing here?. I asked.
“What?. Can’t i come to your office?.”he scoffed.
“Well…”I sighed with a shrug.
“I came for the trial. You’re indicting my worker, remember?.”he said.
I nodded and sat down opposite him.
“Yeah. By the way, why can’t you just let him go?. I mean, the money he stole didn’t affect you one bit so…
“I’m a discipline man, Janelle. I can take no nonsense.”he cuts in sharply.
I mouthed an ‘oh.’ and placed the files down on the table.
“The trial went smooth for me than I imagined though. Cause, u didn’t have enough time to prepare.”
“You did better than someone that didn’t prepare.”he complimented and I smiled.
“Well, thanks.”
“And, you’re not suppose to be working around for someone who’s wedding is right behind the corner.”he said.
Huh?.
“What do you mean?. I can’t just sit idly by and if I should, I will get sick. And, your mom is the making all the preparations so….”I explained.
I saw the guys pepping at us through the window and I snorted.
“And I can just take care of you if at all you get sick.”he replied.
“Come on, George. Besides, you’re still working also so why in hell will you want me to stop.”I scoffed.
“iñ my company.. working in my company so..”
“It still doesn’t change, dude.”I rolled my eyes and he smiled.
“Fine then. Let’s do it this way. We both will be going to work but we will be closing at noon.”he suggested.
I paused to contemplate on it and sighed.
“Fine then. I will still think about it though.”I replied.
“Alright. Have you eaten?.. lunch I mean.”
“Nope.”I shook my head.
“Then let’s go have lunch together.”he said and stood up.
I stood up also and we both walked out of the office.
The guys quickly moved back when they saw us and pretended to be searching for what they didn’t kept there.
George turned to the chief and said,”she will be closing at noon starting from tommorow cause of our coming wedding and she will take two months leave also, for our honeymoon. By the way, you guys are all invited to the wedding. You will receive the invitations soon.”
“Oh.. sure sir… yes… well..”chief stuttered.
I blushed shyly as he grab my hand softly and led me out of the building.
